Can anyone tell me how alexa ratings map to actual numbers of daily or monthly visitors ? Or how to get an idea of the number of visitors a site has ? My own site has an alexa rating of 1.900.000, gets around 300 visitors a day. I have an idea for a new site and want to now how similar sites do in terms of traffic. A similar site has an alexa rating of 600.000 and another one its rating is around 250.000. Any idea how many daily visitors they get ?
Alexa rankings are very unrelated to traffic even though they claim its all based on that. I'm surprised there's still people who still depend on it's results. The truth is it's hard to know what traffic a site gets from alexa because a site at 25,000 could have the same traffic as one at 3,000,000.
Unfortunately Alexa ratings are horribly inaccurate. To give you an idea, you said your Alexa rating is 1,900,000 with 300 visitors a day. My site, Informative Post, have an Alexa rating of about 450,000 with only averaging 32 visitors a day. Like I said, horribly inaccurately!
yes and no to the above - the examples above are low traffic sites, once you get high traffic volumes it does become more accurate - alexa only measures visitors who have the alexa toolbar or I think a alexa cookie. obviously if you have a popular site with high traffic you will attract more alexa users and in turn boost alexa rank. That's why I don't understand the fools that buy automated hits to boost alexa, the software or program would have to have the alexa toolbar installed wouldn't it - to measure the hits ?
I think there is correlation between alexa rank and the number of visitors. If you want to increase alexa rank of your visit, make alexa.com as your home page and simple type your optimized keyword all the time when you are connecting Internet. Click your site daily to get good alexa ranking. THATS ALL for alexa!!!
Alexa traffic is based on the traffic you get from users that have the alexa toolbar installed on their ie. It's very irrelevant; you might have a 10k a day visited website and rank lower the a 1k a day one. You get the idea.
You may be able to swindle some advertisers into purchasing some adspace off you with impressive alexa stats - However I will agree that in the grand scheme of things it is fairly irrelevant to income potential or true analytics/worth... Here is a tip if you want to influence alexa - install the toolbar everywhere you go and make your site the homepage on each computer I use to work at XX and with a staff of 65 at work and home computers utilizing this we skyrocketed to stupid numbers, didn't do much for our media kit though tbh.
Install google analytics on your site. Their results are pretty accurate. Thats what I use, and I am pretty happy with it.
ahh, hmm, for that, as far as I know, compete is fairly accurate. However I am a bit upset with compete right now. I summited my site to them in June, and it still is not ranked in compete yet. I don't really understand what is taking so long there. I have the compete bar installed since I signed up. Oh well, that soap box is for another forum category.
It means less and less every month.. As a guide I have 1 site that is ranked about 22,000 and receives approx 35 million page views per month. Then another that is ranked around 10,000 that receives only 5 million page views. The alexa rankings really tend to favour blogs and social networks because people are continually returning to check for updates. Hope this helps
