Hey thats a good news that google is finally updating PR values. I hope all directories will get what they deserve. LOL.... but my directory did not lose any PR as i think GOOGLE knows i did not make much money... Mine still stands high at PR3
With respect to the OP and all the posters is this subject worth all the interest ? I think it is folly, to follow others in any marketplace, the Directory Market needs to be influenced by its own directives and objectives Not reliant on being influenced either directly or in-directly by 3rd party ratings or such I have said this before and I will say it again right now here The Directory Market has reached a level of maturity whereby it shold collectively be looking at is own body that provides category ratings etc It is tantamount to what in Japan is termed as Hara Kiri http://nostalgia.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harakiri If the Directory Market allows these monitoring devices to influence the aims and objectives of the overall Directory Market Followiing this hapless trend of 3rd party nonsense will infact, at a later date come back to kick the Directory Market smack in the teeth If you are a Baker you get evaluated by Bakers not Butchers Hence the Directory Market can set and create its own valuation parameters Forget about this 3rd party rating stuff it will lead us no where
Well said Pete. Problem is we have nothing good to talk about these days, at least theres no arguing for once
I have already one directory ranking system at http://www.bigoole.com/qualityrank.php (Unlike many others ,it's based on the quality of listings in a directory) but none cared to listen to it... as some of the big directories got lower QR I would bet it is much better than many others except a few glitches ...
As always Pete a very good point. It wouldn't hurt my feeling if the whole damn thing was greyed out across the board...but then what would we have to talk about other than important issues
johncrow is pr4 now, v7n was a real surprise for me though. yes, it looks like the down grade is still going on, hopefully G's game ends soon,
i think that a balance needs to be met. One cannot also completely ignore the significant outside forces like G and think that all is well and dandy from within. It might almost be like the cartoon giraffe sticking his head down the sand.... whether we like it or not, outside forces like G has significant influence on our industry and it is only prudent to be aware of what's going on outside. With that being said, i agree that it is also impt not to overemphasize on outside factors and forget internal valuations. A fine balance is required and not to take either extremes....
sounds similar to what i said here and also agree as for our own guidlelines 100% agree, i have ideas on this but perhaps a thread where these ideas are discussed. ? or here ?
Agree but no genius is going to get that balance without some extreme luck, the commercial reasons that impact on markets will never allow a balanced equilibrium
Hi, webdirectory.com have gone from pr7 to pr5 and this site is also giving link to botw.org. So botw.org pr may also go down though not yet.
It certainly seems like the PR update is on, lets hope its not another false alarm, seems like too many changes for it not to be the real thing this time. And a sharp downward trend across the board, whether a directory site or any other site means Google has had a serious tinker with the algo. I wonder if this is a way for Google to phase out PR, just gradually drop PR (public PR at least) for all sites until all have a zero and therefore PR means nothing, it would be a way for Google to let everyone (or specifically webmasters as no-one else either knows or cares about PR) get used to the idea slowly rather than ditching it right away... just a thought...
for those who are checking it thoroughly, is the pr drop only for the sites which saw a drop earlier too or is it for new sites (without any earlier apparent penalties) as well?
I've been checking a few well known and not all have seen PR drops... yet (I suppose) Dropped (examples) Alive Aviva Forplex GII Non-Dropped (examples) BOTW Piggydir Squidlink (not mine anymore) ...and many others I guess it's still updating...
as mentioned earlier, it is affecting all types of websites, whether penalized earlier or not. One good example is problogger: http://eonte.com/seobuzz/story.php?title=ProBlogger_-_PageRank_4
yes, this thread has gained a lot of traction and as I posted my question I was already past a few posts. thanks
The only drop that I have noticed is on my directory that was hit by Google, the rest remain the same. (My unhit directories remain the same) Looks like the site hit before are getting hit again. Thanks Brian
Lots of truth in this statement.... I'm with LakeCountry. Show me the Grey, one less trivial thing for everyone to worry about and directories can get on with what is important.
