Need some help from SEO gurus - what do you think ?

I just got my hands on www.yousaytoo.com

The site is desperate for SEO.

First things first - got to make some meta tags, that's nothing new.
Then I guess do some serious article marketing.

What do you think can be done with the site?

 

Start promoting a website with off page optimization factors...

 

first of all you should add meta tags. you can do on page and off page optimization.

 

Yeah start with the on page stuff.

Make sure every page on your site has a unique title and meta tags.

Then hit the pavement in all the conventional ways. Is there anything you think is extremely unique about the site? If so use that to market it directly to others sites and try to get them to link to you.

Onpage and offpage optimization are required. You got quite a nice community based website. Work on meta-tags and also link building. Perform link exchanges with relevant websites like yours, advertise at forums, etc.

The site has a lot of potential! On page SEO is needed. The question should be.....What do you want the site to do for you?

I would suggest a redesign. With in the first 1 minute on the site I had no idea what the purpose of the site was. I would work on optimizing the existing traffic before going out to get more

 

I hope your aware google ignores meta tags

I don't really get what off site optimization is.

And our site is ranked in it's own _niche_ very high, but yeah, it is very confusing on what the site is actually about. That's where I come in. Though the trick is to make the site more streamlined, yet not lose the rankings we have now.

 

Onpage optimization is the first thing as others said. You can add a sitemap, robots.txt pages on the site.
Title, meta description, keyword rich content, meta keywords are the ones to emphasize.
If you have to work on Url rewriting also. For example http://www.yousaytoo.com/user/keita/4042 can contain some keywords possibly the title "Workstation with a treadmill" for this url specified.
Apparently this is a dynamic site, you have to make sure you have proper meta description, meta keywords dynamically generated for each page.

 

So using the title of the page as metatags is a good idea?

 

Google and Yahoo do ignore meta keyword tags. This has been officially verified. If you doubt it, ask Matt Cutts on his blog; he will confirm it. The algo ignores them now because they were being abused by spammers. That said, the smaller engines still read them, so you def. want them.

 

Right, so meta tags are infact ignored?

Ok, then what can we do out of the box BESIDES meta tags? A sitemap, submit it to google; the url that display keywords. What else?

 

Meta Keywords are not ignored at all. I have seen cases when I have seen site shown on SERPs for keywords that exist on meta keywords but not on title, or meta description. Yes its weigtage is less then title, meta description, or content.

 

I'm starting to think that there are as many opinions on SEO as there are webmasters

 

Ya, #3 in SERPs for google for funny pictures is so ignored lmao

 

I could get ranked #1 for funny pics too if I had it plastered 1 million times all over my site as well.

Guess I'm just waiting my time, it's funny how the indexed pages show the meta description tho isn't it
