How important is content in SERPS?

If directory links are not to good for SERP rankings anymore. How important is content in SERPS? Say my boxing blog for example Boxing Videos has 230 posts and ranks on the third page of google for the keywords 'boxing videos'. If i get this blog up to 400 posts and the amount of backlinks stay the same will my SERP rankings improve from the third page?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well, in general bigger sites should rank better than small sites, but a lot of written content is always best.

Your SERPs won't increase because your page count increases, you need to increase backlinks. But you do usually get more backlinks by having more content.

    This is an amazing question....

Its sort of asking like "Is oxygen is important to life?"

The answer is yes! SERP is very much so ranked by the content on the site, the whole point of search engines is to find the content you want! :)

if you increase the number of posts it won't help to show up in the first page. You need more links.

Content is King, and It cant be Emphasized enough. My blog now ranks better than some major websites for some Competitive Firefox Keywords, coz I have the relevant content!

Even if you have Videos, Try and add some information along!

Contrary to popular belief; content is somewhat important to yahoo, less so with Google. The fact is that you can get a blank page to rank in Google with the proper internal and external links. FACT.

Content is really the king. relevancy is mostly based from it's content. And who said that directories are not good anymore. I think it also help depending on the quality of directories.

Content is of the utmost importance in the SERPs. It can be less important in getting into the SERPs, but once you're there, the user has 9 other sites they can choose instead of yours. Your meta description will be shown if you have one and it seems right, but if there's a direct match in your body text Google tends to show that instead, so they can bold the matches.

Also, once somebody clicks through the SERPs into your site, back is just one click away. It's true you can get a page with very little content to rank decently for less competitive phrases, but can you hold onto your visitors long enough to get a conversion, with nothing?
