The Most Common Price for a Regular Listing is $5

During the last two days I've compiled a list of 2115 alive and kicking directories which accept accept submissions (yes, my team has checked each one of them), and I thought to share some statistics:

Almost half of them accept regular listings for free.
The far most common price for a regular listing is $5

(remember I'm just talking about the quantity, don't draw any serious conclusions)

Maybe it's time for me to raise my prices eh? My featured with 5 deep links is just under 5... Regular with 2 deep links is under 3.

Interesting information mickn. Maybe I'll get off my rump and raise them there prices.

would be good to see more detail, on featured links average price and general average ( over the 50% that charge ).

snowbird, the next most common price after $5 is $3 and the next one $1.
Draw your own conclusions. It could be that the market says that $5 is a very popular price because it's cheap enough so people can afford it, but still not so cheap that directory owner cannot earn money. $1 is a fair price for a new directory, that's what I think. Because, most of them are free anyway, and directories show up and disappear too often to seriously think about a new paid directory as an investment.

DownUnder, the only info we have collected is regular listing prices, and Google PR of the home page.
I don't have enough directories on the list to make a meaningful number out of an average price. Like I said, half of them are free anyway. The top price is $5 and 168 directories have this price. Then comes $3 (71 directories), $1 (71), $2 (59), $10 (59).. but! there are many prices around $5 so $5 is definitely a winner $4.99 (20 dirs), $4.95 (28) etc.

Thanks mickn, i currently only make 40 odd cents from a regular submission, around 20 pence in my country, sweatshop workers are on more money than me.

interesting stats, thanks, i strongly believe that a $15 listing price will always outsell a $5 price, $5 is becoming synonym with "cheap bad quality directory", i am a SEO so i can estimate the true value of a link whatever the price is, but lets think about it from a marketing and submitter point of view, when i pay $50 for a listing i always get the impression that i just bought something very important (a high quality link), when i pay $3 or $5 i always tend think that this link is worth close to nothing, so if you are a directory owner and are looking to increase your sales, cheaper is not always better.

Interesting thoughts, my cheapest listing option is $0.75, when charging for anything i feel i must justify why im charging a certain amount, saying that, i can see what you mean with regards to something being cheaper and given the impression of lesser service in some way, any price increases i make wouldn't be a huge jump but i may consider a mild price increase.

I might go nuts and charge 85cents, lol ;)
