I love all their cute graphics and how they change them for all the special occasions. That one is great.
I think it's interesting that they use the graphic even in countries which don't celebrate Halloween. In New Zealand it's not part of our culture (it's spring here, Halloween is an Autumn festival) but is being slowly adopted due to the actions of large corporates who have a vested interest - ie we buy the associated merchandise. Nobody actually understands what it's about, how it's meant to be done. It's pretty hard to tell your kids "we don't do halloween" when there are ads in all forms of media flogging their wares. Now Google is no better (although it is a cute graphic )
halloween, although traditionally a fun time in the UK, is now the 2nd most exploited festival only to Christmas due to corporate promotion
I suggest answering the door in underpants, wellingtons and carrying a headless black chiken dripping with blood
id go for one of the chicken recipes where you have to cut the chicken up and then put it in the oven at a ridiculously high temperature..... im not a psycho honest!
I'd say some in New Zealand are accepting it pretty well, though. There was a comment on another board I go to from a New Zealand mom about all the trick or treaters she was getting. Couple of the moms here weren't sure how she was getting them what seemed a day early to them. It does seem silly to be celebrating it now when it's not for about six months where you are. That's marketing, I guess!
Now there's an American event I'd love to participate in! Stacks do it but they don't know why, it's blind adoption of something they know little about. If people were trick and treating on a Saturday it was because the Mums didn't want them out late on a school night. I haven't heard the stories of kids being bused to more affluent suburbs like last year so that's something. Sarah
I'm not a big fan of the cartoonist in our daily paper (http://www.nzherald.co.nz/cartoons/) but I think he got this one right... Sarah
I personally loved the ones with the winter olympics...those little cats and mice running around the Letter
Not showing down here but night is falling and the bus loads of kids from other suburbs have arrived. Off to fend them off.
