I hear this term quit frequently. But i am not 100% sure what is means.
I know that dropped domain is the one that has been penalized by google. But what exactly is the penalty that is assigned to such domain.
Also how can i find out if the domain is a dropped one or not.

    Thank you

oh so if you are saying if the domain is like 2 months old and has a pr of 4 than the chances are it's a dropped domain?
i saw a couple of those and was wondering how that happened.
So am i guessing right here?

A dropped domain does not mean it fell from your hands and hit the floor.

A dropped domain is a domain name which has previously been registered and has not been renewed - thus allowing the general public to register it.

There is no "penalty" for dropped domains. The only problem is that once the domain forwards to a parked page the search engines will put it in the supplemental index (there are exceptions). Webmasters that have linked to that domain may remove those links after discovering the url points to a parked page.

Is there any real "penalty" for a dropped domain name. The answer is no. But then again, the previous owner could have spammed the search engines and got the domain banned...
