Web Directory: How many link is enough, overload ...

I have a web directory, now coming near 20,000 links from a total of 700 categories.

    My questions:
    1. Will my web directory be considered overloaded with links and end up as linkyard... link graveyard? How many?
    2. If when the day 'overloaded link' comes, should I stop taking links or start spliting my site to several daughter sites?

No reason to be considered an link yard or a link grave yard if all the links work.

You can't have too much links.
Just focus on quality of sites you approve and with the time split them in more specific subcategories when category becomes overloaded and has 5+ pages of links.
Good organization of links and quality of sites you let in can never lead to "links grave yard".

Hearing that, should I consider start deleting links from my directory?

More questions? Start with the NIL PR?
But what govern a good and bad link is not PR correct?
Any estblished method used by seo guru to rapidly evaluate links?
I be compiling this into my blog later on http://mylinkspider.blogspot.com/2007_10_21_archive.html

Yes, if you hit approve button on many sites without reviewing them first, going back and deleting spammy sites sounds like a good idea.

Sites with high pr are "safer" to list simply because they wouldn't gain high pr if they weren't quality in the first place, but this shouldn't to be adopted as a rule with no exceptions, because there are new sites on dropped pr domains etc.

And speaking of quality websites, you can evaluate any simply by using common sense. Think if that site is useful to you as potential reader or customer. There is no better rule to evaluate links than this one.

Good luck with your directory and your business.

i wld suggest creating more subcategories to better segregate links and to make it easier for visitors to find relevant links is the best way to go.

Of course, review your links for spammy sites is impt too as mentioned already.

for a directory, quality matters more than quanity.

if you make sure that you are linking to quality sites, you need to worry about the "number of links".

you may have to reorganize your directory to make it a more useful resource.

with 20000+ links, it may take days, if not months to review and reorganize the directory

the question is - is it really worth? are you getting the returns to justify all that effort?

Some of these directories have over 500,000 listings and 50k pages.

The more listings u have, the more resourceful it is.

I think the quality of sites listed is something to consider.

If all goes well, It seems there would never be enough or over than enough links, as long as you load it with Quality Links and Quality Content.

Just say I have 20 links with average 500 words per page; for 20k links I should come out around 2000 pages. Will they be nice numbers? Will spidy like me?

You can have too many crappy links , spammy links etc. You can NEVER have enough quality resources listed. If you have 20,000 good resources listed then kudos to you.

You have a serious mess of unedited submissions. A focus more on quality then quantity will give you a much better directory. Do you want to be a directory operator who provides a quality internet resource or a link farmer?
