Recently wrote a blog post on the impacts of 'Automatic Ad blocking software' like Adblock. Here is an excerpt: Currently, a huge proportion of all the websites created depends on online advertising to survive. Tons of highly-useful sites and resources are there for free only because of the ability of advertising to provide their revenue. Take away this source of revenue and guess who suffers? http://www.lifesperspective.com/200...l-destroy-all-we-love-about-the-web/#more-127 I'm sure many will disagree with me and I sincerely appreciate your comments on my blog... tks.
We'll make our sites invisible for the ones using that kind of software, or we'll add paid memberships to our sites...
Just like there will be ways to block advertisements there will be ways to bypass them. This is just a vicious cycle that no one will win.
Yup, pritty much, but things are getting pritty bad a lot of people are using blocking techniques on firefox :\
If every one uses ad block then most sites will have to shut down or charge people to use the site. Most sites will fail and a few could make a fortune with the paid memberships because they are one of few sites still offering the service. I am probably getting way ahead of things though. I personally like sites better with ads unless they have way too many or have the flashing, warning, or ads with sound. I think we need to get rid of those types of ads and less people will hate ads all together. Also if I owned a ad serving company I would have never offered popups or popunders because those are the most annoying.
This "adblocking" softwares only stop "client site ads" : Javascript,... If too much personn use it, the ads scripts will be located on the servers. Example : now, adblock don't block adsense on Google.com website.
agreed nice insight on the script. Cld u elaborate more on the point you are trying to make? Not too clear to me....
I think he is saying that since AdBlock doesn't block ad code hosted on the server they it is being displayed on people will start using there own methods of selling and managing their ads. That way they won't be blocked by AdBlock.
This isnt nothing new, if you use firefox you can turn off the java and most ads are java right now so they dont ever show. So nothing new in my opinion
You can actually have a blacklist and block whatever comes from a those hosts. That's a very effective way of adblocking. I don't see an issue here... if that becmoes too popular advertising companies will go for server side scripting solutions like php.
