Does this seem right? I just checked the rank for all my sites, and they don't match up with the analytics reports... some of the high-traffic ones are nearing 1-million alexa rank, while one site, that gets 1-5 UV's per day is ranked 400k... Does alexa rank also factor in links or something?
No, its just how many users have the alexa toolbar that visit the site. Generally alexa ranking are not that great above 100,000.
Webmaster sites have a HUGE advantage over every other type of site in Alexa since mostly webmasters install the bar. So when 40% of your 10 visitors have Alexa toolbar, you will have a much larger alexa rank than a site that has 1% of 300 visitors with the toolbar.
there should be a huge update for IE and FF users - where Alexa is mandatory on all browsers - but o well - I just have to look at my rank and be proud even though it may not be of high accuracy
the widget makes a huge difference. I have an online store whos alexa was always 1.6 mill i installed the widget and now its down to 300k. i have a proxy site that is 2mill i am going to install the widget today and report back next week!
why... who cares about alexa rank. even for bragging rights its stupid, most knowledgeable webmasters known alexa is crap. I'd never put their widget on my site. If you want to track stats use something like Quantcast or google analytics.

looks like evey newbe has to say the same thing! tell me exactly how is it not accurate! give me a site of yours that has alexa rank under 100k with a low ammount of webmaster related traffic! textlinkads, adbrite etc use alexa ranks as a factor for payment, better alexa ranks means more payment in those networks!! and it is the only way, atleast it is better as compaired to a fake google analytics screenshot!
are you sure you didnt just have more users. Are we making the assumption that the widget counts all the users that dont have the toolbar installed and adds them towards your rank?
yeah install the widget, youll get a much better reading and youll be able to calculate more accurately
Don't want to hijack but does anyone use compete.com? It's interesting to compare the numbers between the two sites, there can be major discrepancies.
Don't give ANY credence to Alexa. Alexa ranking is flawed, unless you are in the top 10,000 or so sites on the net. Even then, it is sketchy at best and pointless at worst.
may be all ur visitors had alexa toolbar installed .. alexa isn't accurate as you go to rankings as high as 400k ..
