I just built a new PC that has more then enough power to run vista. I put vista on it but it didn’t like my ATI graphics drivers so it looked like crap. So for now I use launchers/installers that allow me to use “Vista only†games on XP and it runs a lot better. Eventually I will get a new card for DirectX10 and use vista. DX10 is going to become a necessity for games soon but I plain to hold out until at least the holiday season… Vista + non vista drivers = crap…
My point is if you try IE7 on Vista maybe you'll be singing a different tune. BTW you yourself said you do not use IE. I don't think you are in a place to judge it. And FYI I use both FF and IE7 so I am familiar with both.
I have, and it's no different to IE7 on XP. I do not use IE as my standard browser, that is true but that doesn't mean that I haven't tried it. I downloaded the Beta on XP (and went through a lot of "genuine advantage" crap to get it to work) and updated to finished version the moment it came out. I judged that, while it was certainly a marked improvement over IE6, IE7 still had a fair way to go before it could compete with FF.
Give me a list of the top 5 reasons IE7 is inferior to FF. I have five myself. 1. Unlike FF IE7 is compatible with more sites. 2. IE7 handles FLASH plugin's a lot better then FF. 3. FF requires you to download extra plugin's to make certain codes work. 4. Unlike FF IE7 has fraud monitoring integrated with the browser. 5. IE7 send less popup messages regarding security then FF (meaning it has smarter security features then FF).
First i'll reply to your points: FireFox is standards compatible. If you code in compliance with normal standards, as you should, it will work. I've never had a problem with FF on this. You already had to with IE, it's just that you probably already have it installed (this was certainly true with IE6) So does FF, FYI. I suggest you try the browser out before making any judgements, next time. IE sends messages every 2 minutes about ActiveX, popups and all that. FireFox never sends it apart from popup blocing (which display a notification at the top, which can be disabled if it annoys you). Actually, it rarely sends pop-ups but instead uses in-browser notifications. Now my own points: Features implemented earlier, with IE just playing catch-up to features already in FF. More secure and with quicker updates. This includes both features and security updates. Can be easily enhanced with hundreds of free extensions More intuitive "standard" interface Greater standards compliance with yet more improvements being made in the next version.
My judgments are from using FF. I have been using IE and no active X controls keep poping up. Maybe its because I disabeled it. And FYI fire fox sometimes screws up Active X.
Well, of course it will stop if you disable it! FireFox does not implement ActiveX, which is probably why it doesn't work!
1- Firefox is compatible with all websites that is designed following Web Standards. Is up to the web designer/webmaster/company to follow this. Microsoft as always likes to use proprietary code and people say it is the Standard... yes it is Standard to Microsoft only. 2- Flash runs well in Firefox, both on Windows or Linux. 3- What plug-ins to make codes to work? IETab? a plug-in to run IE inside a Tab on Firefox because the site only works on IE? Firefox runs "well designed code" out of the box. As I said in answer #1, is up to the Designer/Webmaster to make the site Standard or not. 4- The phishing fraud (green bar) feature on IE7 cost big money to implement and not every website/company pays the money required to have this feature ON on the browser. This is just a green color in the bar to tell people is not a phishing site. Also you can have this function in Firefox using this plug-in. 5- Are you joking right?
XP sucks so much i had to use it for almost 2 years, before that i used windows '00 & '98 & '95 and Vista crushes them all now that i use it.
I have basically answered all the others except for 5. No I'm not joking. I am currently writing this message on IE7 and for the two plus hours I have been on the computer since the day started only one popup. Not a single security message and no annoying "plugin download" messages. FireFox requires a plugin to do almost everything except browse the net.
Tell me what pluging/s are necessary or a must for Firefox? Flash? (single click installation) one time. I can't understand why you say: "you need a plugin for everything". you can use and browse the net out of the box.
XP sucks, Vista sucks more. Both versions are annoying as hell. Leopard comes out on the 26th. Get a Mac.
I'll stick to XP and Desktop X combo (yes I have widgets just like Vista does...) Plus Vista has SO MANY problems with error reporting, you need permission for EVERY application you run, and all them log files build up and take a lot of space. Also Steam has problems with Windows Vista. Dunno why it does though.
