****, the flames are over a 100 feet, and its spreading fast. It's about 1,500 feet away from where I live, and I think I'm going to be evacuated soon. F**k man, this is not cool. the skies are filled with smoke, and ashes are everywhere. I swear to f**king god, this is like straight out of a movie scene. for you socal/orange county people, look towards Northern Irvine and you'll see a hugeass cloud of smoke.

    brb, packing.

UCI right now is covered with smoke, and the air quality is horrendous. A lot of Irvine residents are moving out for the night. The weather is supposed to get much worse Monday and Tuesday... we're in for one hell of a ride.

High winds all day today, reaching 50+ mph. The wind is still strong, and is expected to get worse tomorrow.

Last night I went to bed - there were two fires in the area. I wake up this morning and there are 8. While only one street in my area has been evacuated thus far, my sister and her boyfriend and his family have been evacuated from the area they live in.

These fires are devastating and spreading rapidly. There was ash all over my roommate's motorcycle this morning and we can see the smoke and smell the fire. I can only hope it doesn't spread too much farther my way!

Be careful to the people that live around there, it is unpredictable, and if your heavy sleeper and fire comes your way, UH OH. :p

That's horrible, I hope the fires don't get any closer to you. I don't know what I would do in that situation...try to get everything I could out and run for it, I guess.

This was the view from my balcony yesterday afternoon in Valencia, just north of Los Angeles. This is the Canyon Country fires, about 10 miles away from us.

Starting to clear up a little today, winds must have shifted, but keeping a close eye on this one.

Best of luck to you lpxxfaintxx and everyone else here in Southern California

yeah, I have a bunch of relatives in San Diego and a condo too. It's getting REALLY bad there. 250,000 people evacuated so far. This is much worse than the fires there 4 years ago. I'd take school over this any day.

This is probably the most concurrent fires I've seen in my 23 years in So Cal. It seems like arsonists are out in force.

It doesn't seem as devastating as a couple back in 93 when I was looking east to towering smoke off Ortega Highway and more towering smoke off Laguna Canyon Drive. But that was just based on my location but a lot of houses in Irvine and Laguna got distroyed.

This time it's just so many fires going at once. Probably 20 significant fires from Santa Barbara to San Diego. I am hearing many firehouse are unmanned at the moment so there isn't fire protection within populated areas, just along the fringes of development.

    Here's some images from Weather.com

Edit: tbarr60, I don't think this was started by arson. I think this was created by wind and humidity, as Santa Ana winds are throwing over trees where I live!

I live in san diego to, We evacuated twice and kept coming back to our homes. Even in my house I have to wear a breather over my mouth and nose, with windows closed. Here are some images.

Smoke clouds covering my house in the morning

Sunrise and picture of the smoke on a normal hour, it was like this all day.

When we evacuated to Del Mar Fairgrounds, everyone brought their horses and animals there to seek shelter, the line went on for a while, hear is just a tiny segmint of it.

    Thanks Volknet,
I might get another evacuation call again probably tomorrow like most others, the fire is heard to get worse, lets hope santa ana winds slow down soon! That's whats fueling the fires.

    ZoharBlur,
The fire east of Irvine was reported to be arson started. The OC Fire Chief reported that it started next to the road and they found evidence that it was arson. It seems like the term Santa Ana winds triggers some nut cases. There may be some naturally started fires but I believe the majority are arson.

I was just listening to KOGO and heard about how the fires were going in San Diego. It was crazy to hear the fires were heading towards Solano Beach! They are saying it's twice as intense as what went on 4 years ago in the Cuyamaca area. We've been down to San Diego, Del Mar, Mira Mesa, Carlsbad, Point Loma, and Imperial Beach this past summer so this like our home away from home burning. Hope we get some improvements in the weather.

Oh, I'm not from irvine but thanks for letting me know, I live in carlsbad, what's crazy is we never get fires reaching carlsbad, and just about 10-15 minutes ago I saw fire very far away from rancho sante fe, You could see with a naked eye but I got my binoculars to see up close. This is crazy, I hope they don't give us a reverse 9-11 at like 2 in the morning although we would need to get out, I recommend everyone hear living in san diego to pack up even though you doubt the fire will hit you.
