Beeping inapropriate language

When you watch TV and somebody swears, you may hear a beep over what they say, how is this done? I've always wondered this.

 

if it is live, they have a 3 second delay and a guy with his finger on the beep button, if it is recorded, it is added later.

 

I'm pretty sure it is longer than 3 seconds. Big Brother's live shows in Australia usually have a 15-20 second delay.

 

that's stupid...you know what he said, so what's point?

it is fun when they play some rap song on radio where half of the song got beep out

 

well i guess different companies have different delays, the BBC has a 3 second delay, maybe thats all they need, as they don't have a bunch of tramps with the IQ of a gnat trying to look intelligent on their shows?

 

It's just to keep the show legal and make sure they don't breach their rating by swearing etc.

 

yea, but it make it more obvious that the guy is saying the bad word

"the fcc wont let me be, so let me see..." or something

 

What da *beep*!!!! All they do is press a button to play this *beeping* sound!!!!

 

they should replace the beeping sound with a voice over, at least it ain't that obvious

 

I hate that type of language. It's so unnecessary.
