You know, a thousand years from now, when people in the future see these videos, I bet you they are going to be thinking..........wow, these people were a bunch of idiots, no wonder their country collapsed. I could see some professor teaching history class in the 31th century, explaining to the students how the lack of education in American society, among other things, was the leading cause of their downfall.................

You ask how many stupid people there are in America, since 1/4 didn't read a book last year, I think it is safe to say 1/4 are complete idiots.

I blame public school, that's where children are taught to watch TV instead of reading books in the first place. Abolish public school and in 20 years the older people will be the only ones voting for Communists
No wonder Rockefellers made it a top priority to pass compulsory schooling laws back in time

Public education and lots of "bread and circuses". That's pretty much what the Democrats stand for.

It's been a systemic undermining of the country, and has been going on for almost 100 years now. With prosperity, we lost our nerve. We want daddy government to tell us we're going to war, but don't worry we can go shopping.

We don't get pictures of the war dead on TV here. The MSM doesn't have reporters who are not embedded. We're taught to view the world through a prism and to reason by way of rhetoric.

But people are waking up. Ron Paul's new Bill introduced to congress, the internet, Constitutionally oriented PACs, the Ron Paul campaign, growing dissatisfaction with Congress and the Executive branch of government has people a little pissed off. And when we're mad, we do our best thinking (except Furious George).

Even right wing neocon evangelists like Andrew Sullivan are waking up and realizing that something is wrong.

It isn't public school, I went through public school and tend to think I received a wonderful education. To add to what Guerilla said, it's apathy of the people: for every motivated person who wanted to increased their knowledge when I was in school, there were 4 more who just wanted to get out of school and get wasted. This doesn't stop at children: our population as a whole discourages effort and progress, and encourages a society where "everyone is a winner". Parents want government to control their children and grow them with laws and prisons, rather than leave responsibility to mom and dad to instill values within their children. Rinse, wash, and repeat for a few generations, and you have the America of 2007.

Centrally planned education is a nightmare for a country this large. I did public and private school. There was a world of difference in the quality of education. In private school, there were less electives and more core subjects. You weren't allowed to slack off or goof around. The standard was high, and the natural competition between young men drove us to not only compete athletically, but intellectually as well.

But real critical thinking and the ability to reason is something that starts in the home. Today's middle class parent's are too busy working two jobs, minding the house and trying to have a life of their own to possibly have the time to engage with their children, and participate in their introduction to the world. Typically, the drive is to just make sure their kids do their homework (whatever that may be) and be home on time. Don't do drugs, don't get in trouble.

Which is why I think the internet has taken off in such a big way, because kids don't have to leave the house to engage and debate with others. To find answers their parents either don't know, or can't be bothered to answer.

Half of them have no idea where Iraq or Afghanistan is, it's so easy to play the Boogeyman card on them as they are too busy worrying about what is happening in the latest sitcoms.
