Easy upgrade from 2.0 to 2.3 but it didn't work.

I found a simple guide that says:

    How to manually upgrade Wordpress:

    1. Perform a complete backup of both your database and directory structure (in case something goes wrong)
    2. Login to your WordPress administration panel and deactivate all active plugins
    3. Download and extract the latest STABLE WordPresss version to a folder on your computer
    4. Upload the extracted files to your WordPress server directory with the exception of the following:
    6. wp-content folder and it's content
wp-includes/languages if you are using a custom language file
    5. To perform the upgrade, navigate to http://yoursitename/wp-admin/upgrade.php and follow the on screen steps
Login to the administration panel and reactivate your plugins one by one to ensure that they still work with the new version of WordPress

    Enjoy the new WordPress release

I followed all the above and even got the 'if you see this then you were sucessful', but when I go into the blog admin it does not show an upgrade.

    any ideas?

    thanks

I copied the above instructions from a blog and am not sure why the wp-contents should not be over-written. I guess I will try it that way.

That's because maybe you don't want to lose your plugins and theme files? There's not much need to update wp-content folder unless you are using Wordpress's default theme which is kind of rare.

I suggest that you can use the Wordpress Automatic Upgrade to update your blog. That's faster and safe than doing it manually.

I heard some people have to hit refresh on their browser for some changes to take effect. Maybe that will help. Does it say 2.3 at the bottom?

It never said 2.3 at the bottom. I guess I need to find somone that is a pro at it, probably takes them 4 minutes to do the upgrade.

I have not yet done an upgrade to 2.3, but most upgrades require that you do not overwrite the wp-config.php file in the root directory. It looks like that is missing in your upgrade instructions.

I have upgraded 3 blogs to 2.3. The upgrade doesn't include a config.php file. It includes the config-example.php so that it doesn't mess with your config file
