they have a huge population and that population is quite young. They could potentially raise hundreds of millions of people if their country was in danger. And they also have nukes so I'd say it's impossible for another country to invade them. You can read more about it here . It seems that they also have significant modern equipment. On the other hand I don't think if they could stage a massive invasion on another country like the US did in Iraq

India has a defense budget of 21-26 billion USD. It has more than 140,000,000 Active troops with 120,000,000 reserved troops. So on Ground level, India has 3rd largest Army in the world with 5000 tanks and artillery support. Plus India has maintained very close alliance with Former USSR and now Russia, as N_F_S said, it buys in Billions from Russia.(Russia is the biggest defense equipment supplier for India for last 60 years)

India has a good Air support (Thanks to Russia, Italy and France for their supply of Combat aircrafts and Copters), Although aircrafts like MiG 21 and 29 are aged fighters, they are being phased out with new and advanced Russian Sukhoi 30 MKI Combat aircrafts.
Theres also the $10 Billion Project to induct new medium multirole combat aircraft from 2012 onwards. Conteders are US build F-16 Falcons, FA-18 Super Hornet, Russian MiG-35, Swedish Gripen, French Rafale and Eurofighter Typhoon.
While these aircrafts, are (Little over) 4th Generation aircrafts, India is developing 5th generation Stealth Combat aircraft (With Russia) which will take about 10 years to complete.

India has both fission device (Nuclear bomb) and Fusion device (Hydrogen Bomb) weapons along with a range of 'air to air', 'air to ground' , 'ground to air', and 'ground to ground' ballistic missiles capable of delivering conventional as well as Nuclear war heads with an attack radius of upto 3500 KMs (or may be more).

Speculations are India also has super long range inter continental missiles (Attack Radius 25,000 KMs. to 40,000 KMs) (Think GSLV, Geo satellite Launch Vehicle) system too, although not officially announced.

So, theoretically we can say Indian Defense system is Powerful in defending it's soil. But as iul has said, India can not conduct massive invasion in another country like Iraq (Although in 1971 India invaded East Pakistan to stop the genocide of East Pakistani population by Pakistani troops and successfully defended the attack from the West Pakistan on opposite border at the same time) But it was never been in India's agenda to invade another country, so I dont think we need that much power.

go check your facts first before charging in with a post like that. ;)

Yepp, sorry, I added some extra Zeros, it's not 140 Million it's 1400 Thousand
(May be I was lost in space...)

Well India's population is more than 1 billion so certainly there are way more than 260 million men in India.. :p

    You got me there...
It's skilled, very skilled but not very well equipped...
India is gradually upgrading the military equipments and weaponry. I suppose it will take about 15-20 years when it will become a grade 1 military.

Yepp, Agree with you, India needs more Aircraft Carriers (Currently it has one, and in the process of getting another one from Russia, plus one is being made domestically and will take minimum 8-10 years to complete), Nuclear Submarines(Currently have just 1, leased from Russia) and SLBM capability (Under development)

Surface ships seem to be relatively easy to sink. You can read about what happened in an American war game here . If you think about it a single missle can sink or severely damage a ship. And they're not that expensive. If you launch a lot of them at the same time some of them could hit the targets

What a smart Indian. He doesn't even know his countries history. Twice, not once, China kicked their ass.

India is still claim some parts of China's land, which were acquired by British from China and British then left Arunachal Pradesh to India.

    Twice? Once in 1962 and..??

India lost to China due to the Prime Minister with an IQ less than a rock, who at first didn't see it coming and later, after the attack, failed in utilizing the Air force(Which was better than China's at that time).

If India had a Prime Minister like Indira Gandhi, results of Indo-China war would have been different.

Even Nicobar Islands, belongs to Indonesia. India still holding onto it. British took it from Indonesia, left it with India. Nicobar Islands belongs to Indonesia.

Funny I know more history than the Indians, who claim they are literate.

You seem to have very high knowledge of Indian history but you know nothing .. Nicobar Islands never belonged to Indonesia and never will . The islands were originally occupied by Japan between 1942 and 1945.Together with the Andaman Islands, they became a union territory of India in 1950.

Dude, you should mind your own literacy, please. Because otherwise you are making fool out of yourself.

You should go and tell Chinese and Indonesian people, because even they do not agree to your 'Outrageous' and 'Foolish' claims...

Nicobar Island belongs to indonasia... Yeah right, like America is being controlled by Martian and illuminati people.
