DP alone is bringing me in roughly 17% of my traffic!

Make sure you put your website in your signature, people do click them!

    You're ok with that?

A few hits now and then from a message board, and just about all are curiosity seekers. Oh boy. Hope the server doesn't snap like a dry twig.

Come on, people! You want more than a few hits here and there. Move on from boards and blogs.

But if you think a few here and there is "good traffic," more power to you.

no offense but 201 visitors isn't much at all of course can always build from it but to keep constant traffic try things like SEO work because to keep up even 200 visitors a day from message boards will be a lot of work that really isn't worth the money in the long run and usually doesn't convert that well

This is the first site on my network that I have advertised with forums, I think it's doing beyond great.

My other projects and companys I work for I do a lot of hard hours upon hours of SEO, I get much more dedicated viewers and I hit the target audience better.

I'm just showing people that forum signatures will bump your viewers up like crazy.

    Glad you getting good traffic.
Don't forget SEO though, that would be your long time friend.
And you can try advertising on classified sites (like mine http://www.webcosmo.com) too. You can get good traffic from those sources.

"I'm just showing people that forum signatures will bump your viewers up like crazy."

    Yeah, you've showed it, alright.

Look, if getting 30 or so hits in a month's time is "crazy" for you, fine, even if it's a whopping 100, woo, that's "wow" for you, but don't try to sell it to others who have common sense.

No offense. And I do wish you luck with your site.

Lol, okay I'm an idiot now with no common sense?

I run a network of 18 websites. I know what I'm doing. I am trying to help the community out here for the younger webmasters. This will help them start. Most people I know that start out get ZERO hits and it depresses them and they stop. I am opening that first door and helping them continue.

On my first website I got zero hits for a long time and gave up, then once I noticed hits roll in I started up again unloading content on it like crazy and learned more about websites, seo, marketing, and such...

There we go :) (yeah, I'm going to not be the dick of DP for once)
Any jump in traffic is awesome. Especially considering traffic generally brings more traffic. My own legit blog(sig) went up a few days ago, and I noticed the same thing as Perry Rose.
And by the way, for those bragging about their traffic. It's not about the numbers. If thats all you've got, congrats, you have a higher operating cost. It's all about monetizing the traffic. I have a site out there for instance, where 300 visitors translates to $85. THAT is what you want.

    Now play nice kids.

You have 18 sites. .. Yeah, and?

Never said you were an idiot, chem. I said if you are happy with such low numbers, while just about all of them are just curiosity seekers, then more power to you.

    Different strokes for different folks.

    That's all.

Others prefer to use methods that make them more money and work fewer hours than a minimum paying worker.

I don't mean to bust in on your parade. So, I'll just say my apologies, you go with what you think is "crazy," and good luck to ya.

You are right, forum sigs do nothing but bring in a slight trickle of traffic.

My sites do not pull in much traffic in all, but honestly, my sig traffic actually is more then all the directories I've submitted, and more then I've gotten from MSN. So *shrug* In fact, MSN pulls more resources from their bots, then from their incoming traffic...but thats a topic for another thread ;)

It's crazy if he's getting only like 400 hits total ;)

Actually, forum sigs indirectly increase traffic by increasing SERP, so you actually may be surprised just how much they can and do help.

Indeed! It's important to know, that it's little steps, and that in open forum, it not only takes all kinds, it's made up of all levels. "Crazy traffic" for one, may not mean that much to another, and the definition of quality traffic is certainly something to take into consideration.

I'd rather have 200 interested people click my sig, then 2000 people stumble into my site. The sig clickers generally offer a higher ROI and many will return to the site, where as other means of traffic I'd not really call traffic.

Niche should also be taken into consideration, in fact, niche can be a HUGE factor in the importance of numbers when it comes to traffic. Though, erm, in this case, the proxy market is likely a bit saturated now. One just starting off is likely doing pretty good getting 200 hits from sig traffic, with only 200 posts. Heck, 17% of 200 is actually pretty good for only 206 posts. If I was getting a click per post from my sig links I'd quit my day job :D

Cars stopping in the parking lot are more valuable then those just driving by.

Yep, you are getting alright traffic, but I wouldn't be excited unless it keeps going up. As long as it keeps an upward trend you are then doing great.

200 visitors is not crazy, it's not even worth smiling about. :p SEO can bring in far more than that.

Boy some tough love given here huh? I think forums directly related to your site offer a much better ROI then some of these other social bookmarking games people seem to be playing nowadays.

Social Bookmarking is all about the inlink. I have no problem with bookmarking using services I doubt anyone actually uses. Just because they're spidered. Although I did get a lovely stumbleupon today. Just 1 though.
