    Low price and high quality. Hey listen to this. If Winodws was low quality businesses would choose Mac because they have the money to spend on them

    @worldman
    Windows is preferrable for businesses due to its networking capabilities, and due to the fact that they have to be resistant to change, as down systems lose them millions of dollars. It is far less expensive to keep what works (even if it doesn't work well) then to change to something better. All of your personnel must be retrained, the additional hardware is expensive and uptime is critical (downtime means, in large companies, millions of lost dollars).

    You've just contradicted yourself.

    They could break them up, and almost did. One part for the OS, one part for the additional software.

    No, they would choose what works with the maximum compatibility and is proven to do so. Same reason why they don't upgrade to Vista, except that you can skip the Low price and high quality part.

    Any flavor of Windows is good to know. It's considered a job skill. Knowing Mac will help you in a few industries, but most of the business world uses Windows. For better or worse. Honestly I'd say standardization of knowledge and interoperability is for better.

    Also I'd say that charging 2x the price for mostly identical hardware (Intel CPU, ATI GPU) isn't doing much differently.

    Ok, I promised myself that I would not post here, but... I just couldn't help myself. I have a lot of knowledge on the subject due to having an iMac, a linux laptop, a BSD server, and a old windows XP box.
    @dturnbull: Macs do not run slower hardware. My iMac is the fastest of my computers, It has a new C2D 2.4 GHZ processor.
    @Alexander the Great: Lawlz, do you seriously believe the sh*t that is spewing out of your keyboard? Macs are similarly priced, in some cases they are even cheaper. Please do some research before making unbacked claims.

    Maybe, but they sell an Intel CPU and ATI GPU for about 3x the price identical hardware from Dell costs.

    Yeah their prices are ridiculous, but has anyone else noticed that Macs with lower specs are faster than PCs at higher specs. One of my friend has a Mac with Core2Duo, 1GB RAM and his unit runs faster than my other friends Core2Quad with 2 Gigs :S

    I really think that you people are illiterate. Macs are not overpriced. I am talking to you Alexander. You want to see 3x the cost? Check out this, I made an equal Dell and an equal Mac Pro.:

    So, no, Macs are not 3x more expensive you are just 3x more dense than the average person.

    There is no contradiction there bro. Mac started to make computers one year before Microsoft with an operating system that could not multi task. Microsoft came along and made an OS that could multi task and partnered with hardware manufacturers.....the main reason for HP, DELL and TOSHIBA's success is due in part to Microsoft.

    @Mark12345
    One of the reasons Microsoft is superior to Mac. Networking. Secondly it is not impossible to change systems. When companies upgrade equipment it is not bang and its done. Its a gradual change and thus if Mac was the better of the two they would have chosen Mac. The only thing Apple excels in is making sexy machines that put holes in your wallet and creating the best damn mp3 player on the market. Other then that they are a failure. You know the only reason they stay in business is because of iTunes. Take iTunes and iPod away and Mac would file chapter 11.

    Well, thats the nice thing of the IBM compatibles platform. You do not have to buy from Dell but can get the same system from hundreds of other vendors which are usually much cheaper than Dell and subsequently Apple.

    This is something you cannot have with Apple.

    Well, that wsn't what you said previously or, though it may have been what you meant to say. The reason Microsoft partnered with the hardware manufactures is because it was there first with an OS that they could use! Mac may have been there a year earlier but they didn't allow anyone to use the OS on non-apple hardware.

    Actually, that's blatantly wrong. Macs use a different OS. Having some systems on OSX and some of Windows would be a nightmare in terms of compatibility, training and because they probably wouldn't be able to use the old software they used to use on pc. Another thing, ipods are not the best mp3 players on the market.

    I guess the whole music industry is shit because they use mac's more then PC's.

    Frank Zappa started that trend (rip)

    Well, thats always a subjective thing. For example, an MP3 player where I have to use third-party software to use it could never be the best.

    If Mac would be better in the long run companies would upgrade. They do it all the time when new technologies come out.

    os x boots way faster for me, plus it seems to be more keyboard shortcut driven so after the initial learning curve, you can get around blazingly fast....and its got quicksilver....where was I without you quicksilver.

    Quicksilver is a good selling point. It really helps me use the OS.

    I, like many PC users build my own desktops. It's low cost, fun to do, and you can pick each component by brand that has the features and options you want.

    I can pick out the case and motherboard by exactly what ports I need and where I need them for easy access.

    If in the extremely rare case a part fails and it's an emergency, CompUSA, BestBuy, and FRY's are all within 30 minutes and have a lot of components in stock.

    Then there's laptops, I like very lightweight long battery life systems to take to meetings and various outings. Currently I choose the Sony 11", 3 pound laptop with 10 hours of battery life. Maybe it's come out since I last checked, but I believe Apple has nothing close to that for me to consider.

    So, for many of us comparing the two OS's means nothing since Apple is so proprietary cutting our options.

    As far as personal feelings go, I am easily annoyed by a company that markets it's products using the technique of bashing competitors. I feel a company with a truly solid product knows how to make success through positive presentation vs. negative campaigns against their competition.

    Every company tries to make each other look bad, some are just more successful at it than others. Beer companies all say their beer tastes the best, and if you listen closely to Bud Lite ads, they bash Coors Light all the time. You cannot criticize Apple for running a successful marketing campaign.
