yesterday 120 supporters of the newly returned benazir bhutto were killed by two explosions, one the work of a suicide bomber, in karachi.
it is thought that the taliban or al quaida are responsible for the atrocity.
bhutto is unpopular with fundamentalist groups in pakistan due to her close ties with the west, and many are unhappy that pressure was put on mussaraf by western countries to aid bhuttos re-entry into pakistani politics.
again these islamic fundamentalists have shown their utterly barbaric and brutal disregard for democracy.
i only hope that benazir is not forced to leave her homeland again and is able to stand or election, for obviously there are a great many moderate pakistanis who love and support her.

Are you sure this is not a work of the CIA? Cause many still believe that's what happened on 9/11.

lol buddy hold your horses. You just misrepresented the facts. I have been following this story since it aired since I am a Pakistani.

130+ PEOPLE were killed in the blast including mostly people on the streets, media and yes supporters of BB.

Also, why is it that you straight away label it as an act done by an extremist? Did you meet him before he carried out this brutal attack? People speculate this could be from the government itself, after all, a military dictator in power can do anything. Did you see the bullet holes on the bus that BB was on? I bet they were a sniper's. There are many other political parties in Pakistan who hate BB and her party with a passion. Then there are those anarchists or you can call them extremists.

As for your great comment on "moderate pakistanis who love and support her", trust me it's a minority who support this woman. Even then only concentrated in small parts of the country.

Anyways, pray that the victims' families are in peace....... Whoever is behind the killing will get punished since the killer is being punished as we speak.

That was just a sarcastic comment I was throwing. I personally can't believe how many think US is the evil country, a country that did more for freedom around the world than any country ever.

M5love, firstly i can only repeat the facts as presented by international news stations, and seeing as the death count will have gone up since i last tuned in then i can hardly be blamed for misrepresenting the death toll figures.
and secondly whether you support bhutto or not is irrelevant, for in a democracy
she should be allowed to stand.
and as for corruption charges, well, she is a politician, and my comments about the CIA were sarcastic and aimed at proteindude who would understand my humour better than you.
but i doubt very much that mussaraf is behind this, nothwithstanding that i cannot stand the man, i just do not think that even he would be brazen enough to fly in the face of those western countries who have been putting pressure on him recently by staging such a terrible attack immediately as bhutto returns.
too obvious, and too clumsy for him.
no, this has all the hallmarks of an al quaida attack.

    DETAILS:
    Source: GEO TV (Pakistan)

KARACHI: Former Prime Minister of Pakistan and PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto vowed on Friday to live in country to continue struggle for democracy to save Pakistan despite heavy loss of lives incurred as a result of assassination attempt made on her life through a suicide attack on caravan of PPP, which was moving towards Mazar-e-Quaid after return of Benazir to Pakistan on Thursday.

The suicide attack PPP caravan at Shahra-e-Faisal near Karsaz on Thursday night left at least 139 people dead including three police officers and over 550 were injured.

Addressing a press conference here, she thanked God Almighty for protecting her and top PPP leaders, saying “ The assassination attempt was not on me alone but all other top PPP leaders were also targeted.”

Benazir expressed shock and deep grief over loss of PPP workers, security guards and police officers and cops.

Benazir termed the suicide attack as an attack on democracy, integrity of Pakistan and humanity saying, “ The unity and integrity of Pakistan depends on restoration of democratic order in Pakistan.”

Bhutto was unhurt in Thursday night's attack, having climbed into her specially fortified vehicle just moments before two explosions ripped through crowds welcoming her back to Karachi after eight years in exile.

The streets, packed with hundreds of thousands of her jubilant supporters, quickly became a scene of bloody carnage. The campaign bus was scorched and dented.

"The attack was not on me, the attack was on what I represent," Bhutto told a press conference in the port city.

Bhutto pledged to defy the "cowards" from Al-Qaeda, the Taliban and other militant groups who had vowed to launch suicide attacks against her before she flew home from Dubai.
"If it means sacrificing our lives, then we are prepared to risk our lives, but we are not prepared to surrender our great nation to the militants," she said.
