Topping wikipedia doesnt take much work, all you have to do is get a few links in with any keyword and you'll top them.

OK, good thing to do it. but it's a distracting sight at your site to see bold colors for a website competing/ or using wiki. you can help yourself by using mild or no colors at all.

naah..im not competing with wiki..infact all the content is FROM wiki...
with zero promotion, i m getting about 250+ visitors a day with 90% from google search (all countries and all sorts of keywords)...and my site is pr0 with almost no backlinks..but 250,000+ pages have been indexed!
i m surprised with the results

Depending on the keyword you are going for wikipedia can be VERY hard to beat.

I think wikipedia is very hard to beat on popular queries because people are used to link them... But on others little queries like yours, it is easier :)

For me, wikipedia is incomparable. Let's look at it this way, SEs still want to rank it high because of its sheer size and authority on almost everything even without backlinks. Do you think not returning wikipedia high on SERPs for not having enough BLs (hypothetically thinking) would mean that SEs are making justice to relevancy factor in search results?

Wikipedia is THE best example of ultimate success in viral marketing to me.

like i said...my site gets the content from wikipedia...
I havent done any promotion for it..directory submitting..getting backlinks..nothing..just added the links to my 4-5 sites and within a month its got 250,000 pages indexed and my traffic is daily 250+ UV, 90% of them coming from google.

Now if G says for any search term "According to xyz.com: your answer is blah blah", then I assume it means that G considers xyz.com to have some authority. I for one havent seen G quote any other sites other than Wiki/Answers or really big sites...
Infact for this particular query...wiki or answers is not in the top 50 results..

If I take all the stuff he has on his page and put it into wikipedia, wikipedia will rank better because Google hearts them.

Exactly because wikipedia doesn't build links - their members do.
