Hey guys, long time browser, new member. Was just after some advice regarding advertising on my website.

I help run a Xbox 360 gaming site which does quite well for itself as regards to stats. We roughly get 450k unique users per month and rising but currently really have no income to pay server costs and that. We are an global site, with the majority of users coming from America (approx 70-80%).

What would anyone suggest is the right way about going advertising? Straight to games publishers or by contacting PR agencies?

Any specifics are greatly appreciated. I am quite new to this advertisement molarky

    Thanks in advance :)

wow 450k unique visitors per month and you're making nothing? Sounds like a waste! I would at least put some adsense ads up there..If you have a PR3+ I would suggest selling some links..Otherwise, I would go with a publisher like adsense...If you're getting 450k unique visitors per month you should easily be able to pull in a few hundred in adsense..

I know it's a waste, but up until now, we've just been happy to provide a service that people love. But we need another server upgrade and what not, so we have to seek advertising to cover the cost.

We are actually a PR5, so Adsense would not be a good option right?

I would sign up with CJ too. They have Gamefly as an affiliate, so you could put up a gamefly banner too.

Cardinal Sin, would you be interested in a link exchange with another gaming website? MOST of my users are on Xbox 360 as well. I get about 15,000-20,000 unique visitors a month.

I also have some banner and footer text link space available for possible partners

@RockDiesel - Who are CJ? Sorry, totally new to this

@KameronK - Appreciate the offer, but we're not looking to add to anymore affiliates at the moment.

@KeyboardHustler - We get most of our money from donations. But that all goes on to the server costs.

Appreciate the help so far guys :D

Cheers guys. What's a good CPM to expect?

Registered with a few to see what the best deals are for us (i.e. CPX, VCM and Tribal to name a few)

Another option would be to put up some advertising space and charge for advertising to help cover the costs

Cheers. Will look in to them as well.

What is a good CPM to expect for a site with our stats?

We have that as an option but we don't seem to get much response back from relevant companies. I wouldn't even nowhere to start with how much to charge them

CPM is the way to go! You can also use banners if you think that you would also click those.

Gamers hates normal adsense text links, that doesnt work. Also your reputation will go down with adsense ads.

Well you have two options; either you sell text links on your web site (PR isin't the issue as many think it is, the way you can gain cash is through selling text links since you have a huge traffic, I would recommend text links)

Text links, banner(s) would help you maintain the web site; and cover all the costs. Ads on the other way, is a good option as well though some users may find it annoying, but its' also a great option.

    Regards,
    Meti
