Siteground is asking for more Money

Discussion in 'Site & Server Administration' started by vinodis, Oct 18, 2007.

I have a Blog hosted with siteground. I get around 800 unique visitors per day. I had turned off wp-cache just for a couple of days and got a message from them about over usage. I turned on Wordpress_Cache again after that. But then got this message from the SiteGround Team :(

I have subscribed for a two year account with them. I not at all in a mood to pay and is feeling cheated. I don't have heavy graphics or such on my page. I can't understand why would they do this.

    Please advise some future actions.

Reduce the number of links on your home page? WTF are they talking about?

It looks like I am missing part of the communications between you and the hosting provider. The message from them looks to be a response to your query, but you did not include it. Is your site down right now or what is going on.

From what I gather your using to many resources, and alot of links on your homepage can be issues if there coming from an un-optimized mysql database.

There charge sounds ligitimate from what i'm seeing, Your on shared hosting and using to much resources.

While I do agree that your site could be an issue on the server, their reasoning is pure nonsense. The number of links on a page does not matter. A popular wordpress site can easily take down a shared host without wpcache.

I actually do agree with the step they took to make the server run better for everyone else. Charging $50 to restore your site to its actual potential sounds like a normal web hosting scam. I know that it is in their TOS as sitepoint is a pain if you do not do exactly as they want.

At this point you will have to pay the $50 to allow the site to run at full speed again. The other option would be to choose a better web host. I see that you have already paid for 2 years of web hosting, so this will probably cost more than just paying the $50.

I had the same experience, moreover i even wrote a review about that at webhostingstuff.com but disappeared!
I resubmitted and then published my full opinion in my site (http://critica.biz/news+article.storyid+24.htm) because people have the right to know.

If you need a real reliable hoster, than i recommend netjaguar.com. You are titled to config everything at your pleasure. It is a shared hosting.

Hope i was of some help.

Perhaps with the large numbers of links mentioned there could be a slow down. I can see that potentially. Still, I do not believe that it is $50 worth of work just to restore the site; that is nothing more than greed.

This is ridiculous. Most of these hosts are scammers. Their advertised bandwidth and disk space are to entice people whose sites will not get more than 10 or 20 visitors per day - they'll never use anywhere near the resources.

The 5% who get more than 500 visitors per day they treat like dirt and they had no intention of providing the service they advertised.

with out caching on, wordpress is a cpu hog. you also have an alarming amount of external script links that is causing your site to load very slowly.

wordpress also reports that your page takes over 1secound to render, now thats just insane for a single html page, try aiming for something about 100-1000 times less then that.

to put that in to perspective some hosts only allowed 60 seconds of processing time per hour so if you received just 60 visitors you would easily be over your allowed limit and then some.

With hosting companies like this, they also charge for extended support as well :-( They will give you 5 support tickets for free and after that they start charging...definitely not a turn on....

    Siteground are scammers.

You need to transfer your site to another host (as I did a few weeks ago.)

How is SiteGround?. Will they allow more than one site to be hosted in a shared setup?
For shared WebHosting which one you would prefer?
