It is supposed to provide better security, I have no proved otherwise because I know of know extensive tests to prove either way, but that doesn't mean it's worth upgrading for. XP is sufficiently secure when properly set-up and with anti-virus installed, so there is no real reason for upgrading to Vista; I also hear of just as many security updates for Vista as I do for XP, so it's evidently not revolutionary. Companies don't change operating system "for a change", that's one of the more ridiculous claims I've heard you say. They didn't change to new OSs before just for the sake of a change, even when there were huge improvements over the old OS, why should they suddenly decide to change now?
I did not say that. I said one of the reasons is it keep the moral of the workers up. Do you think Microsoft updated the GUI of Server 2008 so it would have better performance. Its because sometimes change is good. Companies spend billions of dollars each year buying things for that do not directly benefit the company but in the long term does. Upgrading to Vista will not directly benefit the company but in the long term it will. Less security problems, more productivity, less IT costs, and also better work atmosphere.
You know how many people are going to be upgrading Windows Server 2008? My guess is very few in the near future. Come on, some of them will only just have upgraded to 2003. It won't. It will cost a lot in time, lost productivity and inconvenience and the only possible advantage it could give is the supposedly increased security and the fact that new programs will start being made only for Vista. I give it at least until 2009 before there is any real benefit to upgrading.
Okay I have barley read any of this forum so this is all I'm gonna say Vista is the same old piece of crap just recycled to look better you still have all your music, videos, documents, etc. in a maze of folders and most of the computer's features like the speech function (yes the PC has a speech function) are hidden in an abyss of folders and Vista still gets viruses like crazy (I do alot of torrenting so i get some viruses from time to time) mac is the way to go my Mac OS X is the best I've ever had and I never get viruses and if you wanna find a file you just click on spotlight, type in what you wanna find and there it is another good thing about mac is that its got all it's file in easy to find place they're not in a maze of folders unless you make them that way but I'll get to the point Vista sucks along with everyother version of PC Mac is the best there is and always will be
I disagree pc may be a maze of folders but you can organize it, the only reason macs dont get as many viruses is that since macs are the minority most virus creators dont bother going for macs. I agree that vista sucks but other pc OS's such as Xp are fairly good.
Which is not true. Maybe the small companies are still using server 2000 but the bigger companies have mostly switched to 2003. As for 2008 it might take a year or so. You know what. You are talking from a lot of bias. Maybe its because you had a bad experience with it why you hate it so much. Give it another try and see how it works.
Yes, most of them probably have by now, but it certainly wasn't a quick changeover. Remember it is now nearly 2008, that's 5 years after Windows Server 2003 was released. In 5 years time then, yes, i'm sure they will also have switch to Windows Server 2008 but it's not, for the majority, going to happen in the next year or so. Of course I am, i'm bitter from having been forced to use a substandard OS on my notebook and from knowing that I will be forced to upgrade to make use of new technology. Is it any wonder I hate it? I've been continually giving it another try since I bought my notebook in April this year.
I hate it because... 1.It starts up slowly. 2.It doesn't work with older software. 3.Its slow in general. 4.Its disk defragmenter takes too long.
I really rate vista. just don't have a lot of files on your computer. i use an external hardrive for all my files and it works fine.
Just a quick note.....DELL is not known to have some of the best notebooks on the market.....you might want to think about that before blaming Vista for your crash.
Where did he say it was a Dell laptop? And the main cause of crashing is usually because of windows. Dell has some very good laptops and they may not be the 'best on the market' but they can run well and should be able to sustain an operating system. Vista just goes crazy on all laptops because of the resources it requires. End of story.
Correction: Crashes, plural. Who, in your opinion, would you say has the "best notebooks on the market", because I have yet to have found them? How is the manufacturer of the notebook anything to do with the instability of the OS? It is a Dell laptop but that makes no difference in terms of crashes for this purpose. This is my third Dell laptop and something like my 5th Dell pc, none of them have had any sort of stability issues. Though a hardware conflict may, possibly, have something to do with it, It's the OS that's the problem.
Yes because if a manufacturer uses incompatible hardware and drivers for its product than who is to blame if you have to reload your OS? From personal experiences and talking with others plus industrial professionals I would say the top three are Toshiba, Sony and HP. HP was not all that good a couple years ago but since they have revamped their line and have much better products than Dell....one of the reason the booted them out as number one a couple months back.
Well I've had Vista since January when it came out, apart from the industry failing to bring out up-to-date stuff for it (especially as I have the 64bit version of Ultimate), I think it's great. With my Core2Duo Quad Core Q6400 2.4 (@3ghz), 4gb of 1000mhz memory & an Adaptec U320 SCSI HD. It kicks ass over XP on the same machine (Dual Boot). Vista wins my money hands down, it's the useless companies such as Adobe / Sun etc.. not having Flash or Java plugins for the x64 of IE7 that pees me off. Also the fact that printer manufacturers are screwing Vista users by not releasing Vista drivers for older printers. Nothing wrong with MS Vista, it's all the other muppets not being Vista compatible, that's not MS fault! , it's been on Beta and initial RC1 for 3 years, plenty of time to develop for it. This is the odd occasion I honestly praise MS and think all the other providers are the bunch of tosser this time!
I guess some people like paying the Microsoft Tax. I for one don't understand why people seemed so gullible into buying an operating system because it looks better.
