I don't think it is so much the Yahoo search engine ranking higher, but just Yahoo in general, which has a lot more than a search engine. And consider the fact that many new computers are automatically set to have yahoo as the home page, and a lot of people don't change it, or at least not for awhile.

yahoo and google also have a lot of subdomains

    gmail,
yahoo mail, (bigger according to the number of accounts, both are ajaxified)
finance google-yahoo,(yahoo bigger again has a whole community behind it)
    adsense, ypn, adwords etc

but.. heres the thing do this

    google+youtube+orcut+google.co.uk+google.us+google.countryTLD+all other google properties

Would google be bigger than yahoo and all its properties?

    Quantcast ComScore and Nielsen all state that the sites with the most traffic are;

    #1 Yahoo

    # 2 MSN

    # 3 Google

    # 4 Myspace

No room for debate Yahoo wins!

Google also had Google answers which they discountinued. If i am not wrong, it was a paid service.

    in the first place,

    1) trying to use Alexa ranking is most stupid thing people can ever do to evaluate traffic
    2) Second most stupid thing is to compare yahoo (portal) to Google(SE)
    3) How about you compare Yahoo search with google search traffic. I can bet google gets tons more.

I dont even have to mention YPN. I would be surprised if it ever comes out of beta by 2020. I feel they would shut it down in 1 year. They wont sell it as product unless the whole of yahoo is sold out to someone else.

Yahoo has way more features than Google, that's the only reason they get more hits. Google is used way more for search than Yahoo.

it is because yahoo has everything on the same domain (mail, 360, video, regional sites) while google uses different domains (gmail, youtube, google.{COUNTRY TLD}, blogger)
for alexa mail.yahoo.com is the same with yahoo.com but google.com with gmail.com not.

    Geezz... VERY OLD INFORMATION

Since a long long time ago, Yahoo ranked better than Google in Alexa. Thread starter, why did you start this topic? This information is so old.

lol @ so many of the "Alexa SUKZ" replies

    Google owns the search market

But given that Yahoo has so many other functions it has more traffic. Should be pretty easy to understand.

Google own Youtube. I think If there were to put youtube on the google domain. like youtube.google.com. then the most likely would go to #1 spot.
Same with BLogspot. instead blogspot.google.com +more for alexa

Yahoo is doing this. they have Answers.yahoo.com and is very popular adding to their Alexa ranking even though that has nothing do to with search engines. So who is to say Yahoo or google is more popular as a "search engine" when alexa counts the subdomains for them. When it has nothing to do with searching... (If thats what were talking about right?)

I waste time? You are wasting time with this useless post.

    You are completely right.

Yes, and every feature Google develops has way more popularity and useability (blogger, youtube, orkut) from Yahoos features (only Yahoo answers is somewhat usefull). Lets take Yahoo Mail for example. Google has Gmail and its 3 times better, faster and useful (Yahoo has banner ads in emails, grrrr). Another example is Yahoo Groups. It took me minutes to understand, that I needed to first join the group group, then go to Yahoo mail, then send email to the groups email (its in the bottom of the groups page and its hard to see from the start). Joining to Google Group and posting messages is made only with literally "click of a button".

Then we should sum up all of the Google features on different domains and compare them against Yahoos features. I'll do it if I have some time later.

I didn't pretend that its new information. Check the thread title. I just wanted to know if its a bug with Alexa or Yahoo has gained some drastic popularity.

I would have to agree with the poster in that this is a waste of time and what is known as hype marketing.

If you have been online over a few months and have found your way to DP then it is common knowledge that Yahoo has been the # 1 traffic destination sight since their superbowl ad which was what 10 years ago??

Same applies here.... if you do not know Alexa is crap and can be easily manipulated in regards to a sites traffic... then you have been hiding under a stone....

The man called you on it and he's right ;)

    Peace!

Well, I just wanted to ask a question. Heck, I don't even know what is hype marketing. :)

It's true that I joined in January, but I'm actively reading and posting from no more than a month.

From what I have known (until now), I was thinking that Google was leading Yahoo usage percents by more than double in any way (as traffic and searches). That's why I posted a question with a screenshot. I didn't wanted to waste anybodys time and I don't force anybody to reply here.

About the Alexa thing, I know it can be easily manipulated, but can it be possible for such a big sites? Yes, you can improve your sites rankings with some auto-refresh addon, but it's almost impossible to change such big values. If it was possible, people would make their site #1 in Alexa. Unless these smart marketers were hiding under a stone. :D

Sorry for the inceonvenience to everybody. I would like to ask some mod to close this thread by his decision or attach a "WASTE OF TIME, DON'T READ" message to the title.

Google may get more search traffic, but I find that Yahoo users are more likely to buy than google, so I like Yahoo traffic better.

The two are different types of sites. Google is a search engine, Yahoo is a portal with a search engine. Google get more traffic to their search engine which is more important to me. :D
