Ok... On one of my sites, I've now got over 19,000 links from pages ranking in 0 (of course) to PR4... And still getting less then 20 uniques per day from google... Is it true that the number of links determines your traffic? Or is it a possibility that I've been penalized for getting too many links too quick? Thanks for any input....
Probably neither of the above. Without knowing more about those links, though, it's impossible to say.
The site is 2 years old, and I've been hovering at like 2k links for a while... I've increased to 19k over the past month... Nope, just a few sig links and a bunch of reciprocal links (and a paid link or two)...
There you go. It's not the speed of your links, it's the quality. Or lack of quality, actually. Read over Google Webmaster Guidelines, and you'll understand the lack of free traffic from Google in light of this last statement.
Something is definitely wrong... On my newest site (6 months old), I've got far less than that (maybe 1500 links) and I see about 2500 uniques a day. Not sure what to say. I have heard there is something about the pace at which you get links, but I've never believed that much... Must be something else... Is it porn?
There you said it, that link profile is a clear footprint for manipulation from google`s point of view . It might will get you some traffic down the road from yahoo though.. But what google is looking for (and rewards) is a natural looking link profile, it does not matter if you get 19k links fast as long as it does not have bad signs like : majority sig. links or reciprocals Muki P.S. r u in Tarpon Springs BTW ?
reciprocal links will HARM your SERPS/ SEO etc, get rid of them. As for sig links, thats very very good for building backlinks but not traffic. Higher in serps more traffic you get
No matter what way you got that number of links, its not good. Better do it slowly. I would say several hundred is ok. Again it takes some time for Google give it a credit. Backlinks are only one of many factors for SERP ranking. You may check the content quality, if they are being useful to visitors.
Wait. why do reciporical links hurt your SEO??? and to make sure im not stupid, reciporical links are like link exchanges right?
Another thing to consider if you're trying to generate some organic results is where the links are located. One example; If you're selling real estate; signature links in a real estate forum are going to help you MUCH more than links at DP. Obvious but true. I'd prefer to have 100 links from the same niche than 1000 from sites not in the same niche.
my answer will almost the same with all of the replies here, if you build links -especially for traffic- one targetted link is far better than hundreds or thousands untargetted links, and you will get a better conversion rate too, of course you need to put your links on a site that has already got decent traffic.
well, you get traffic if the links are targated. if you buy links from sites that are not related to our niche, then no one will click and you will not get any traffic. and in relation to 19k links in one month, its not bad in my opinion only if you can keep up with tht pace. if you get 1k new links next monthm then something funny. thats when your site gets sent to google sandbox and nevre come out. yes, same thing. gogle likes one way natural links.
I agree with the Amazing Alexander. I must ask though, does the niche of your site match the niche of your links? Relevance is an important aspect in link building, and about the only time that is not the case is when Dorito's puts ads up on Weight Watchers sites...then business is booming You find that sig links trump recip links? Can you give anything to back that up? There can be quality link trades from related sites that can produce both traffic and SERP. Two like minded sites will NATURALLY link to one another. Look at all the bloggers here that have their blogs linked in the recent blog and/or sigs that talk about Digital Point all the time. Those are all reciprical links. Are you honestly saying linking to my blog is bad if I am going to link back to digital point? I also find that, depending on the site, I can get great traffic from sig links. In fact, I'm getting 5-10 hits from sig traffic daily. That's better then what I'm getting from directory submissions! Not always true. It would really depend on the keywords used to get those SERP.
getting backlinks so fast may be a reason for sandbox but i also want to ask you that your web site age
