How is it that when an urgent news story comes out it goes up straight away on the first page in Google and it isn't a sponsored link and it hasn't been cached? regards Michaelr
Usually because it's a trusted source and has been around for a while, either that or it's a News aggregation type site - like a RSS type news site - usually yahoo, Google Blog search, etc.
I believe the source site has to have multiple authors, in order to be syndicated in Google news . Regarding coming out fast and hot, their indexing time has been reduced to a very short time . I have seen websites rank for their keyword term on first page in 2 hours !!!! after registering the domain (no joke) thats how fast they spider/index/rank the web.
That's one of my secrets for rapid indexing. Create a blog - claim it at Technorati - Digg your first post - You will be indexed in a couple of hours. If you have chosen a good keyword rich domain name you will come up number one for that quickly. Gregg
How is it that certain Marketers can get the coolest guy on the planet top position just because he wants it. What is the secret to getting top positioning cheap and fast. or within top 10 or ever 20. surely it's more than just Money here - perhaps you could humor us and do alittle experiment Race to the top contest and post the results along with how it was accomplished. ty.
Not too long ago I posted an orginal article about a certain haunted location. Less than thirty minutes later I was doing a search to see if I could find more info to add to the article I had already posted - I was amazed to see my own post, less than half an hour old, in position #1 Google can and does index pages quite fast
Yup as long as you have a few backlinks from good sources. A page alone with no links back wont go anywhere.
It's ALL about the backlinks. The question about the "coolest guy on the planet", that was a tongue in cheek contest that Brad Fallon and some of his buddies did a few years ago just to show how you can get ranked for a keyword by getting tons of backlinks using the right anchor text. A good example of "misuse" or doing it wrong can be found by Adobe who is still number one for the phrase "click here" It's not really rocket science, it just takes a little forethought and some work. Gregg P.S. PLUS - Don't have lofty ambitions of getting ranked in the top 10 for a high competition keyword right off the bat. That takes time. Instead choose what is commonly referred to as the "long tail" or more easily to rank for keywords. Once you have ranked for several of these it will be easier to go after bigger ones.
Haha that's funny having the number spot for "Click Here", great example though. Gregg you are exactly right, some great tips there, simple as it is - but very effective.
yep its all about respect - google has a book - which every one of us has our name - the higher up the list the easier it is to get up the google serps .w.
