After reading this I plan to stop all TLA at the end of this month. Its been a nice source of extra revenue, but definitely can't afford the slap from Google if/and when it comes. http://searchengineland.com/071007-173841.php
Well nothing new to be honest. But where your traffic mainly comes from, Google search engine or other sources?
Google has a really tough time filtering out paid links. I wonder how long it will be before they just admit defeat and buy text-link-ads.com. Cheers
I wonder how long it will be before they just admit defeat and buy text-link-ads.com. Never, they don't even rank for their own name
I don't think that selling link with text-link-ads can hurt seo if you manually approve links, disapproving not related links. Limit the number of sold link. Place the links in prominent places. Don't link text-link-ads referral. Looking at the example in the article The advertisers are obviously using the text links to improve seo ranking as text links are under the footer, advertisers are not related, each advertiser is buying multiple deep links. However The Stanford Daily now is pr8 so increase from the time of articles that state is dropped to pr7.
Calm down people. The problem Google have with paid links is that certain people are using them to manipulate PageRank. By buying links that carry weight people can increase their PR without any work. If you have enough wedge it's extremely easy to create pages with a high PageRank with very little effort. This whole process of buying links to increase PR makes the PageRank algorithm useless. You need to understand that a link is essentially a vote. Buying votes is increasing your rank artificially. It's cheating and Google can not allow this as it affects the quality of their search results. This however doesn't mean that you can't buy links. As long as the links do not count as votes you'll be fine. I still buy links but I purchase them purely for traffic. There is nothing wrong with this. All you need to do is make sure that all paid links include the rel="nofollow" attribute. This simply instructs search engines that the link isn't a vote and that it shouldn't carry any weight. - Matt
selling links it's a good and non-intrusive business, and don't understand why google is killing the business, since now the pagerank don't have value anymore
What is a big problem? People no longer having the ability to pay for their PageRank? Oh what a shame, this means people will actually have to earn their PageRank legitimately instead! The problem is that for the past few years people have been manipulating and abusing the PageRank algorithm by using paid links to obtain PageRank. Finally Google are doing something about it. - Matt
Oh, so manipulating via Article Marketing, Reciprocals or other schemes are any better? PageRank is ALWAYS being manipulated regardless if it is paid links or not.... MOST of the world of SEO is about manipulating the search engines..... sheeesh..... so let's ban EVERYONE shall we?? How about big name properties ( BMW, ePinions, Shopping.com) that have used so-called Black Hat techniques and had very little grief from Google... you see that as OK? Google even sells AdWords for accounts to link sellers and lists them in the index --- http://www.google.ca/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4GGLJ_enCA238CA238&q=buy+text+links How does that work? Give yer head a shake man..... it is a sticky mess this whole recent Brew Ha hA.... there are a few double standards going on...
If Google was to penalize websites who use paid links, wouldn't it be easy to ruin your competitors? This model of heavy penalties don't make sense because for a few thousand dollars, you can destroy search ranking of a major competitor. Hopefully Google will come to terms of how they approach penalizing websites.
The fact that they dont even rank for their own domain is even more brutal. They manage to gain all that traction without even a flicker of help from Google.
