You must be pretty young lol. But I have always used IE for some reason. Tried switching to Firefox didnt work out though.
no i don't use IE7, firefox is faster and cleaner and in fact some IE 7 features are copied fire fox like the "tabs" thing
For work it is Firefox all the way. There are a few thinngs I do on a daily basis that require IE but otherwise try to avoid it. Personal browsing it is Safari. What can I say I am a mac guy.
Well it has been ages since I last used I.E. I.E is lame.. most of the spywares are written for I.E in mind. Also it is too lame browser. Yes FF has some memory consumption problem.. but still I consider as a better browser.. IMHO A better competition for Firefox would be Opera not I.E. ..:: peace ::.. Jeba
Im so glad I quit using internet explorer. I feel it is such a slow browser. Opera is the best browser in my opinion. So fast, good looking, and generally great to use. I only use IE when I need to stumble something with stumbleupon, since it does not support Opera.
The cache problem could be many things.. 9 out of 10 times Blame Microsoft. My firefox sometimes goes up to +300k when i have many(many = +30) tabs with things like video & flash. this is normal!! when you close a tab the memory will go down.. if it doesn't and it keeps increasing then your speaking of a memory leak. NOTE: the amount of memory used depends on the pages your viewing. p.s. 99k is nothing.. unless you have like 512mb memory.... p.p.s. when you checked the memory they used did you have internet explorer minimized ?? (minimized it just way less memory) I support The General on this one... FF = up to standards IE = below standards FF shows you the pages exactly as its wrighten in html. web designers intentionally make mistakes so it looks good on IE.
I don't care too much for IE 7. I use Firefox. I got all my sweet plugins for Firefox and have no reason to use IE.
I don't know where you got your facts from because FF does not control even 18 percent of the market. Check it out here. Give some examples of codes that IE screws up. I run PHP, HTML, XML, FLASH, XHTML etc all in IE7 and not a single code is screwed up.
The only reason is because IE comes integrated with the Microsofts OS, and Windows is still the most widely used OS. BTW: On the link you provided, check out the percentage change in one year. Who will be the leader next leader?
That change was FF 1.5 when IE7 had not been released. 5% change in a year is not extrodinary. Lets see what will happen now that IE7 is out and IE8 will be on its way late 2008.
IE7 did not impress me, and IE8 will continue to disappoint. Mozilla is open source, so its code has more eyes revising it, and it has far more functionality than IE ever will.
You're fighting a losing battle here. IE has the worst support for css and even though it improved in ie7, it is still waaaaaay behind ff and opera.
I prefer FireFox over IE, however, I still see many sites that are not 100% compatible with FireFox (or maybe the default settings ?)
That's the problem, it doesn't go down. That's because it has cached the page. It's supposed to be a feature, I believe, but it shares more in common with a memory leak than anything else. Yup, basically. In order to have it work in both you have to write two separate sets of code of some parts of the site, one for IE and one for FF. Most estimates I have seen place it at about 21%. You've linked to one survey which seems rather more interested in selling you the white paper than being informative. Also to note: Netscape is basically a rebranding of FireFox with a couple of changes and Mozilla is basically an older version of FireFox integrated into a suite. Just thought i'd mention that. Nice way to show your ignorance, PHP is a server-side scripting language which is not affected by browser. Take the Acid2 Test. While FireFox 2.0 is by no means perfect, 3.0 is expected to be complaint. Whereas, IE (all versions) comes off horribly.
