The best backlink checker tool?

Discussion in 'Products & Tools' started by wokaka, Oct 17, 2007.

Recently I used iwebtool and backlinkwatch to see the other websites' back links. But I realized that most times iwebtool backlink checker doesn't work. meanwhile, backlinkwatch can only provide us the first 1,000 links and recently they even showed us internal backlinks. For example, your site is A.com, then you check the back link from backlinkwatch for this site, and you'll find numerous lists of internal backlinks from your own domain. Wow, I thought this tool is a tool to check external backlinks, not internal

So what is the best backlink checker tool?

The best way to check backlinks is using Yahoo Site Explorer (siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com). It's free and offers much better data than Google.

Linkvendor is not accurate? Does it give you false results? Almost every tool gives you different results, since every tool use its own evaluation about what is and what is not a backlink. If you have a link in forum signature and you have 1,000 posts, one tool will show 1,000 links and the other will show one.

Yahoo explorer shows the most links, but it doesn't show what is a value of each link. Backlinkwatch uses the same script as Yahoo (only that it is limited to 1,000 results), and it shows PR of each backlink and shows outgoing links on the linking site, which are two most important info about the BL value. 5 good links is better than 1,000 bad backlinks (I guess).

Backlinkwatch is slow (it may take more than an hour for me to get results).

Currently there is some issue with Yahoo Web Services which is resulting in issues with backlinkwatch. Otherwise backlinkwatch was a good option.

Now i think Google webmaster tools is only best option.

Though i hope Yahoo! will solve their problems soon.

The best link checker is your stats. If people aren't clicking the link, it's of minimal aid.

Well, I do have to agree that if you want to Eliminate all the IBL's that aren't aiding in your Overall Goal of Traffic Vs. Conversion (The reason we are in business - to make money -) Then yes, your Server stats will show you which IBL's are actually working in your favor (In comparison, the others would be garbage).

It shows nofollow links such as from del.icio.us and stumbleupon. If your website got a lot of digg, stumbleupon, and del.icio.us, then you will see lots of back links (in linkvendor) from these sites which I think is useless. Links from forum are still considered as back links although their values are very small. But linkvendor shows you links from social bookmarking sites which are nofollow links.

The guys that mention Google - are you serious?

Let's put this in perspective, Using Yahoo's SiteExplorer for one of my sites, I see over 170K pages indexed. With Google's backlink checker I see 163 pages indexed.

Google's backlink checker is so handicapped it is worthless if your truely want to know of all backlinks coming into your site.
