Closing your own threads, would it be possible?

I was wondering if it would be possible to have this as an option. Maybe for more senior members with 500+ posts or something? Or only in BST forum, so once a deal is complete you could close it off. I can't really figure out how this could be abused?

I understand the current policy is you can use the report thread to ask a mod to close any thread you have started?

    thanks

This has been asked many times before and the answer has and probably will remain the same,

Please use the report ( [IMG]) button and ask the mods nicely to close the thread, and they will do so,

Allowing members to close there own threads will probably wind up being a disaster :)

    Hope that helps

I disagree, it will cause more abuse to happen in the BST section.

For those that are against it can you please elaborate on how it would be abused?

Also can I get confirmation from a mod or can someone point me to a rule that says it is ok to use the report thread on a regular basis to close threads.

    thanks

It always could be abused by like taking payments and then not delivering the product/service and not let the user contact you. Although, a thread could be re-opened reporting it to an admin. But still, its not really of any use. It doesn't really take more than an hour or two before a mod closes the thread. In the same way you may also argue why are we only allowed to edit our posts only for 8 hours and why not more or even unlimited time. The answer would always be in the negative. Rules are rules and have been framed by Shawn(admin) i guess. He won't want to change a rule unless it really causes in-convenience to a lot of people or is being abused. Moreover, if such a rule was to be framed, the current version of vBulletin would have to be edited as there is no such vBulletin plugin/script that allows such a feature and i don't think Shawn want that.

I'm 100% sure that there is no limit to report the no. of threads you've created to be closed. Even if the thread wasn't started by you but you have a valid reason for getting the thread closed, its not a problem. However, there has to be a 60 second gap between any two posts that you report.

What i actually fear is people using the close thread as an excuse to close an illegal sale or auction of a product, in order to scam and rip people off. They can run away by allowing them to close their own threads.

I prefer the way the forum is being run at the moment. I think this feature will be abused by noobs, idiots and worse of all, scammers.

I still don't get it. If someone wants to scam someone closing the thread does not allow them to 'get away' or 'not be contacted'. If anything it would stop the thread from getting more replies and less folks might get ripped off. I don't understand how closing a thread helps a scammer get away.

I am not saying anything is wrong with the way things are but I thought it would be a convience saving the poster from reporting the thread to be closed and saving the mod the time of having to review the thread and then closing it.

And what about the time it'll waste it implementing such a feature....

And what if a loophole is found and it is abused...?

For all I know it is a plug in that can be installed in 10 minutes or a feature that can be switched on and off in a few seconds.

I guess that was the purpose of my post, I could not really think of a way it could be abused.

what if what if what if???? there can be thousands of what if's.

I think it is a great idea, its worth testing it out at least and will save the forum space.
