where is God when the world needs him/her?

ok so way back, thousands of years ago, god sent his prophets to this world in order to help mankind and the holy texts were written.
    then what?
    nothing!
    not even a postcard!
so if there is a god, which i sincerely doubt, why through all these centuries of war, suffering, and destruction, not to mention the decline in people's moral values - not my take on things you understand but stated clearly by religious types - has god taken a vacation. with no more prophets, no more holy texts, and no more talking to troubled souls out in the wilderness.
did god just seize a window of opportunity all those years ago and now has lost all interest?
in my opinion it is now that he should put in an appearence, if only to clear up all the misunderstandings on all sides as to what he really did say all those years ago and exactly whose side he is batting for now.
    any ideas?

May be God's clock moves very slow, every 1000 year he cleans it up or sends messenger to uplift humanity.

The theme of the entire Bible is the issue of Sovereignty (who deserves to rule over mankind and the universe). There's more than mere humans involved. The Bible speaks about myriads of myriads of angels. Careful study of the Bible will reveal these things if you so desire to pursue answers to your questions. However, it takes time to get the questions answered. God has never left us and neither has Jesus. Jesus is poised to strike when God gives the green light. It's a waiting game. All prophecies must be fulfilled prior to God's day of vengeance. His words can be found in the Bible that states "Vengeance is mine. I will repay." There are only a few prophecies yet to come to fulfillment. Won't be long now.

G-d is here...the problem is that not everybody sees him.

There is no life if G-d dont allow it...and all what happen is because G-d believes is good and because we need to review our actions....

so god is this loving, caring, deity who plays ruthless, uncaring, mind games with us?
why play games with the human race, why have all these secrets and prophecies?
i don't buy into that one.
to be honest i'd rather have no god at all than one who fools around with human beings as and when he wants.

It's not mind games at all. God had Plan A all set and some stuffed up that plan. Plan B was introduced immediately and it is almost upon us. If you chose not even to investigate this, then that is your choice. If you don't want to have a God then you shall not have one by your own decision. From my learning I know he is there, I know he cares for us, I know he provides answers for all my questions, most importantly I know he has permanent solutions for any problems.

    how do you know?
    what assurances do you have?
of course you want to believe in a 'greater being', that there is a purpose to your existence and a heaven when you die. but as far as i can tell any real assurances from god were issued thousands of years ago, back when there were only a handful of people on this earth and not anywhere near as much misery.
so why the silence when the world needs a god so much.
you say it is all part of his plan. so in other words all the death and destruction around the world is presumably part of that plan also, i mean being god he must have known it would happen. yet he remains in the wings, aloof, without using this so called plan.
sounds like a politician to me!

One of the scariest endowments God has given man is something called Free Choice. It's a bit like some Americans were crying when 9/11 happened: "Where was God? Why didn't he protect us?"

The answer COULD be that many (not just Americans) do not want God in their life, or their schools, or their governments, court houses, etc.

Looks to me like you want God only to protect you but yet you don't want to submit to His authority. But then again it's your choice.

so you are saying that none of the people killed in 9/11 deserved to be saved?
that god only saves those who believe in him?
well saddam believed in god, he prayed right up till the end. so did god save him?
a bit of a silly argument as usual dude, and one that will not sit easily with those who lost loved ones in 9/11.

You come up with some ridiculous replies sometimes. I am saying when you kick God out of your country or out of your life, you can't expect to have the same protection as before. I am saying it's not just the ones involved in 9/11 that have to suffer in this life. Believe it or not even proteindude has his own troubles but that's another story.

I sometimes wonder why I am still alive. I am no better than anyone else. All I want from God is mercy which in my case is something I most definitely got.

Belief in God also means belief in the devil. September 11 was the work of the devil. Yes sure you can blame it on that crazy bunch of arabic nutcases but just like Mother Theresa was inspired to do good by God, so these terrorists were inspired by the devil.

Yeah, yeah: Saddam so believed in God, you could tell by his actions before he was caught. Like the times when he was in power and gased those poor Kurds.

i was being sarcastic about saddam dude.
anyway, as for divine retribution, or whatever you care to call it, if god wants to punish the evil doers as you say he does, why doesn't he do just that?
for when i look around the world i don't see the evil doers being punished, i see ordinary innocent people, often god fearing people, being punished.
and as for free will, yes we all have free will, but if god gave us free will he must have seen our shortcomings surely, so was this just some game set up for his own amusement?
and what of all the good people around the world who use their free will to not follow any organised religion yet still do immense good for the human race, are they damned for not paying lipservice to god, whereas someone who does nothing for anyone but prays the expected number of times is given entry to heaven?
this god of yours sounds a bit too intent upon revenge and too narrow minded for my idea of a god.

Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is impotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Whence then is evil? [Epicurus]

thanks dotcompals. you summed up exactly what i am trying to say, albeit much more clumsily.
the fact is that if god has been taking a back seat all these years merely watching as the world he created crashes and burns, what does that say about god.
not a lot in my opinion.

God (Jehovah is his name) is not the God of this system of things. Satan is ruling this system we live in. Satan challenged God to say that humans don't need his guidance and we only worship HIM because of what we get out of it. This is far from the truth. We worship HIM just like a child worships his Father, because his Father loves him. So, basically God is allowing Satan time to prove to him that we don't need God's help and guidance. Look at the mess we are in. You think Satan is a good ruler? Hardly! But his time is now short. The Book of Revelation says he has little time left before Jesus throws him and his demons in the abyss.

All those who died will be resurrected on earth as per his promises. Jesus gave us a foregleam of that promise when he resurrected people back to life using God's spirit. There is a scripture that says "the wages sin pays is death", which points to the resurrection hope.

Only because you understand his purpose.

I don't have all the answers but I noticed that you try and turn everything so that all the bad happening in this world is God's fault. When He punished the evil doers with a flood and saved only the righteous ones (Noah and his family) then He was too cruel for killing them all.

From a Christian perspective there is also a place called Heaven and no unrepentant evil doer will enter Heaven. That is a palce where kids can play in the streets without being scared of paedophiles, or of being blown up, or of being run over by a truck etc. We are not in Heaven yet.

From proteindude perspective and again this in only MY view I cannot ever find fault with God. Even before I was a Christian I had these two very strong/super strong beliefs: there is a hell and no one (not even those in hell) can say God dealt with them unrighteously. Do I understand the infinite God with my finite mind??? I don't. But I am like Mark Twain: "It ain't those parts of the Bible that I can't understand that bother me, it is the parts that I do understand."

    wrong again dude.
i don't blame what goes wrong in this world on god, i blame it on mankind, i just don't believe that there is a god, and have yet to be proved wrong.
i have my own sense of what is right and what is wrong, and my own compass when it comes to morals, i don't hurt or harm anyone, i try to do my best to help my fellow man, and i will fight against inequality and injustice (peacefully), wherever and whenever it occurs. i don't need a god or a prophet to tell me to be like this, i don't need a holy text to guide me, i just need to respect my fellow human beings and the world we share.
but you, and people like you, have this 'hell and damnation' view of life, with myself and all other non-believers frying in hell, whilst the righteous ascend to heaven. and any god who discriminates in this way is not a god for me.
'good is as good does' in my book, and my book is a whole lot simpler than yours because that is all that is written in it.

What you described is what the Bible states: "Every man is right in his own sight." So of course you are right in YOUR sight. Of course everyone should abide by YOUR principles, by YOUR definition of right and wrong, by YOUR morals.
Of course your book is a lot simpler. It has to be. Your book (which of course you don't have) is just YOU. I get the feeling that not that long after you're gone, YOUR book will also be forgotten, but THE BOOK will still be THE BOOK as it's been THE BOOK throughout history.

That's an interesting hypothesis. How did Satan get to rule us? Did he 'beat' God? I'm not being sarcastic but I've NEVER heard that.

PS - I wouldn't put too much store on the Book Of Revelation if I were you. People have been reading it and drawing the wrong conclusions (that we're at the End of Days) for the last 1000 years. Any parallels you can draw now apply to any period in the past millennium. I remember one bible study class I went to back in the 1970s when we spent an hour discussing whether or not Henry Kissenger was the antichrist!

(Mind you, if you were to claim George W Bush is the antichrist - I'm listening)

The history developes per script outlayed in the Bible, in chronological order. Christ will come back AFTER all events that are scheduled to happen before second coming occure. When Billy Graham says, "Christ could come today!", all he does is revealing that he has no clue about what Bible says. If Bible says that second coming will be after cashless society and nuclear war, you can be fairly certain that it won't happen before that. Or it would be first time in the history that Bible prophesy wasn't fulfilled. Statistically impossible, if you ask me

I could write a whole book about this, but for everyones sake I wont.

Everyone knows about Jesus dieing for our sins. The apostles/disciples were then sent out to tell people to repent and forgive. God is here, lets take for a example the tsunami a while back at Christmas. It shows the power of God and the coming of Jesus again (which it says in Revelations). Going offtopic, but God is here in every Christians life and God even trys to give signals to sinners to show that hes here and they should forgive/repent/reform.
