Computer Restarts If Hit

    Hello

Im having a very weird problem, being a techy myself, this has never happened to me before. Anyways, the problem is, the lightess tap on the front, or if the case door gets closed, and even opened really slowly, it restarts. This just started happening for the past few months, i built it from scratch and was fine for along time, i was thinking it was hard drives, since i had to rebuild the sectors many many times because of HD failure, but since if i OPEN the case, it still does it, so something is telling me it must be somehow pulling/touching/ the restart button.

I was just looking for some opinions before i start, since this is super rare.

    Thanks

    Tyler

Why not just disconnect the restart button from the motherboard and see if it fixes the problem.

Pull it apart and rebuild it. If it does it again. Pull it apart and rebuild it again. Then post here with the result.

Any blue screen or just instant reboot? You could try checking hardware connections.

    ground problem?
    test with another power supply
check for motherboard grounding to chassis - screws not insulated from chassis, etc.
    try another reset switch

Take apart and check inside. And maybe get a new power supply.

I would say to take out the restart from the motherboard, that seems like the quickest fix :D

You're lucky! I had one that if I kicked it it would shutdown and not come back on.

Pour some water over it. It will surely stop the restarting thing. ;)

I really don't think it's the power switch/ button because it's only a switch. There's only two contacts inside the switch, one for on and one for off, a simple switch to turn things on or off. On the other hand they can go bad but then you'd have a problem turning your computer on or off, this isn't the problem because your computer is ON when your having this problem.

I would say open your computer and check everything. Make sure all plugs are clean and inserted firmly in the socket.

    Also check your event viewer.
Go to start, run, then type eventvwr.msc
Maybe you can see the error there.

I think this is a definition for SMPs:

"Symmetric multiprocessing. A feature of an operating system in which two or more processors are managed by one kernel, sharing the same memory and having equal access to I/O devices, and in which any task, including kernel tasks, can run on any processor."

ok, how does SMPS have anything to do with it then, not really related.

IM5, no real errors i can see.. Only errors system really had was with DHCP,

And a few other app load errors, but only like one time things.

I might try the pour water over it.. lol

rhyswynne, its not that simple, like lets say i turn around on chair and just tap the front, it will restart lol, or if i accidentally close the case door when walking by.
