ASP redirect and SEO

I am using 301 redirect on asp to redirect from http://www.mozaico.net to http://www.mozaico.net/mosaics

1st- will this redirect have any bad effects on our SEO plans?

2nd- will the directories reject including the site because of this redirect?

3rd- is there a better way to do this redirect?

    Thank you

it's never a great idea to redirect your homepage. Some big sites do that but IMO not recommended.

    Yeah agreed.

Try to keep your home page at the root of your domain.
If you must redirect though you are doing it the best way :)

Also remember Google seems to be the only search engine that follows the 301 really effectively. The others dont do such a good job (but you probably dont really care about msn anyway hehe)

    Hope this helps

Yes the effect will take time to level out. If your getting a new domain redirect the whole thing at once. It took our redirect almost 3 months to come back to normal we was ranking number 3 for website design and were not number 13 it took almost 3 months for it to even come back to that it was scary lost all our traffic.

Why do people redirect the home page in the first place? Why not just shift everything in /whatever to your root index?

when you do a 301 redirect from a new domain you want to make sure your site structure is the exactly the same such as folders, and etc.

This guy doesn't want to redirect to a new domain. He wants to redirect / => /whatever

Yea I just noticed that or I was wondering what he was referring to. Best thing I could say is just do it :) if he don't really have that much of competitive rankings then he don't have to worry about anything. If you know what I mean. It will come back very fast, now on more competitive rankings it will take awhile for things to level back out, and its a living night mare.

Why? This will hurt, not help, your SEO goals, and cause extra confusion for your readers.

Obviously the dude wants to nail the "mosiacs" keyword. What I would do is use the homepage and optimise it for mosaics. I reckon the keyword in the URL is worth about 5% of optimisation, the rest being on-site and links.

Thing is, Google gives the highest weight to your homepage so by giving a redirect to what is effectively a subpage you've lost that bit of weight. Just my opinion, but I think you should always use the homepage if you're interested in SERPS.
