Need some opinions

I just made a site www.justinwhittle.com
It isn't finished yet, I just want to know what people think to the design?
Anyway any opinions would be good, thanks

 

I like the sidebar

 

Yeah the sidebar is nice, and the ads blend in well.

However the overall design is a bit plain.. perhaps you could attempt using another theme that's more footballish.

 

The black and white were chosen to match the Town colours, of course But a little bit of red here and there might liven the look up a little.

Also, have you considered merging a few smaller ad blocks in to the body of the page (the main text area?)

 

I disagree with the sidebar comments. I think the black is too hard to read.

 

Yes the design was chosen to match the colours of the football club that the player plays for
I'm going to add some adsense ads into the text eventually, just need to add more content first

Not too bad.
I'ld add a little more "swung" to the design. It's indeed a little plain. By example use some kind of header image instead of only the shield of the club and the sitename. The top of the image could have rounded borders; and it could be a picture of a football field where he's playing (by example).

Also, the lightpink in the theme should maybe be taken out and replaced with light gray; to match the theme.

Further, personally, I don't like the shadow around the sidebar. While the shadow around the whole sitecontent fits very well, it doesn't fits the sidebar very well. I'ld rather leave it away - but that's just my personal opinion of course.

The links in the sidebar are bold; I'ld unbold them; that will make it look smoother; and also distinguishing the links from text will be easier then. Nice mouseovers for the links tho!

Further, if you moveover the the search icon, I'ld prefer to see a hand cursor (css code: cursor: pointer. That makes it look a little more "clickable" lol.
Further the search icon & box is very nice.

When I open the site (firefox 2; 1280x800; win xp), I mainly only see adsense ads, and almost nothing else. That doesn't gives a good impression. I'ld recommend you to remove or make smaller one of the adsense blocks. Myself I'ld make the one in the sidebar just one block; so that the user at least sees the navigation bar.

At the bottom I noticed a few links. They are only not viewable, unless you move over. Is that intentionally? (Technical Analysis, Pictures, ..)

Thanks for the great comments. I will change the sidebar ads to just one block, I was testing what worked but I think it will be better to make it smaller.

I couldn't find these links on the page

I am looking at getting a better logo, but just thought i'd add a related image until I get one sorted.

Haha didn't notice them before, I have no idea why they are there. Maybe the person who made the theme put them there. I guess i'll leave them as there not doing any harm as they are, but thanks for pointing them out

I have nothing bad to say about your site and unfortunately nothing that I think should be improved. I like the fact that you have not overdone the content on the site like some people do and also not overdone the ads. I like the right menu area being black and the black text on a white background.

I like the design, but don't understand where the traffic is supposed to come from. How many people search for that?

 

You think I am only targeting a few small keywords?
I have other keywords that I'm going to try and get traffic from that are searched more. Plus his old football club has over 20,000 fans who all think he is a legend. If half use the Internet and hear about the site when I advertise it on their messagboards and forums then that is where some will come from.
This site isn't really about making me loadsa money (got plenty more sites to do that ). Its about giving football fans and Justin Whittle fans somewhere to find out news and information, I'm not too bothered about the traffic it gets or updating it to make it better, as the topic the site is about, I am very passionate about

It seems to be too wordy.

 

Nice site, a padding for images, would be great.

 

The link pages looks good, but home page feel not so comfortable, do not use same ads on the same page, and also the position of image and text not easy to read.
