Google allows some Adwords ads to contain the word "Google" in their ad copy while denying others the same privilege.

    What gives?

They don't. Show me one ad that contains the word "google" in the ad copy that does not belong to Google.

You can place it int he display URL all right. Not the description.

Topo? I assure you Google do NOT allow the word Google in ANY ads. (I would really like to be proved wrong here as I am writing an article on it!)

Excellent stuff guys. Thank you so much for that. Seems like some agencies have expemptions. That's some great fodder for my application :)

I love being proved wrong. (Unless the upload using editor allows a bypass?)
