Please everyone learn from my mistake, i hope i am not alone in this boat and i don't think i am. I have heard horror stories about 1and1 but this was after i started hosting my sites there now i am pulling my hair out trying to move my hosting over. Please avoid this pitfall and save yourself some time, money, and sanity. Please post if you have run into 1and1 too.

I have been there for 6 months now and i only recently really got into developing websites with wordpress and drupal. I finally get a couple of sites up and then for about one week the sites are up and down on and off frequently. Then for a couple of days they are unreachable. I submit a ticket and they say that there is nothing wrong with my server that my sites are hosted on. I said yes i cannot connect to site i think that is a problem. they then tell me to run a trace locally on my computer. I do so and submit the results and then i never hear back at all and then get an email about how i think the support was. Umm what support? i never heard back? i never had anything resolved? umm bye bye 1and1 you have taken enough of my sanity.

Best thing to do with a bad host.

Just leave and let others know about the bad experience. Email support is the most basic form that all hosting companies should provide. If they don't respond then your business is not important to them.

I have heard many bad reviews about 1&1. I would suggest anyone to search around for reviews of that hosting first before jumping in. I tried some before and now i hate all big hosting companies. I think small company is much better both in price and services.

I wish i had done more research before choosing 1and1 it is going to be difficult now to switch my hosting under their radar. I have heard do not cancel until you are off of their hosting because people have told me they hold their domains/sites hostage basically

I just want to make people aware of their terrible service, because it is not fair to those who spend a lot of time and effort working on these sites.

With all of these complaints, I'm surprised they still do the volume of biz that they do.

    I agree!

I signed up with them 4 years ago....and quickly changed to a new host. Fast forward to now and I realized my domain ws still with them. It took over a month to get me access to be able to move my domain.

Their CS is all outsourced and goes round and round in circles, never actually solving the problems you have and quickly transferring you around so they dont have to help you....leaving the user with hours of frustrating dead end consversations with people who dont understand and dont care.

    Exposed

Found some stats on 1&1 Hosting here from Better Business Bureaus:

The company's size, volume of business and number of transactions may have a bearing on the number of complaints received by the BBB. The complaints filed against a company may not be as important as the type of complaints, and how the company has handled them. The BBB generally does not pass judgement on the validity of complaints filed.
