True.. I blame those even more. There once was a news video about a 6 year old girl who was so fat she couldn't walk anymore. I don't understand how they didn't take her away from her parents because its entirely their fault. A six year old doesn't go out to buy their own food..
I just don’t understand that obese thing. I sure it’s like an addiction. And I am not trying to be mean but when you can’t fit in a queen size bed by yourself you should put down the fork and knife!
Wow.... Just wow. And I watched the video of the fattest woman in texas, and and she kept saying "There is nothing wrong with me", Well woman, I guess you don't know your risk to get a heart attack is A LOT more than normal people.
It's naive to think that family or medics can do anything to help these people until they ask for help themselves. Even then, they frequently ask out of social expectation rather than true desire. The problem with obesity is that "rock bottom" never gets reached until it's too late. The care they need is frequently not physical but psychological (minstrel, your thoughts on that?) My mother isn't morbidly obese, she's not even large by some standards, but 20 years of mismanaged medication (because Drs were happy to prescribe but didn't enforce results) and diabetes mean she's now got kidney failure and needs 3x weekly dialysis. She now has a shit life, but like smokers and drinkers she still feels she deserves treats and can't see the damage she continues to do to herself. If she said "I'm screwed so I'm going out my way" that would be one thing, but she still believes she's doing what the Drs ask and eating according to the approved diet. The "denial" that's she's entertained for 20 years is astounding. When you read about the "obesity epidemic" don't think it's scare mongering. The cost is very real and it's only going to get worse. Luckily we have free health care but ultimately the tax payer is footing the bill and it's mightily expensive. So you can do us all some favours Exercise and eat sensibly so you don't end up even moderately overweight Don't view the photos, buy the greeting cards, watch the TV shows. All that does is perpetuate the exploitation of those who are obese and encourage some mentally unstable individuals to seek attention and glorification.
I remember something like this. I'm not sure it's the same story, but the girl had a disease that made her fat and she couldn't stop eating because of this. People who have the disease will also eat out of the trash can if they must. It's pretty sad, but they can't help it. I'm not sure if there is a cure.
great advice! especially 1. I need to get back on the wagon!! my mom shared a similar demise...chemical imbalance, misdiagnosis x ?, overweight most of her life - large part of the first two things and it led to her never seeing 50
The "obesity epidemic" in the western world is primarily a lifestyle and diet (pre-packaged, pre-processed "instant" foods and restaurants) issue and the advice to eat less and become more active is good advice for most of us. But people who are morbidly obese, as is the case with those being discussed here, didn't get that way from overeating alone. Blogsip is correct: It is a disease. To become that obese requires some sort of metabolic or brain disorder. Dieting alone isn't going to help and exercise when you are that obese isn't even realistic. And making fun of them isn't going to help either.
After watching that video I want to throw up. Thank you DP for putting those pictures in my mind. cheers powell
