Can Paypal take money out of my bank account if I have a verified Bank Account?

Discussion in 'PayPal' started by Melvinng, Oct 5, 2007.

I have an Verified Paypal bank account, with my debit card in it. It is for the country of Canada.

I am just wondering if, I deposited money into my bank account, and the person that send the money got the money illegally...

Will paypal be able to withdraw the money out of my bank account without permission? or will they ask permission first? If so what can I do to prevent that?

    Regards,

No, there is absolutely no chance for PP to do this. All what can happen is your account balance becomes negative and you will recieve some nice letters from their lawyers anytime. But they can´t take the money out of your bank account.

You haven't really lost that money if you followed their rules. Which means if your paypal account was obtained while you were 18 or older, and your country is supported through Paypal, they can only freeze your funds for...3 months I think it is.

If you violated their terms of agreement, then of course they would do that. Don't whine about it, because you agreed to their terms when you signed up.

Melvin, what do you mean they took the money out of your bank acount.. Paypal's authority cant be enforced with your bank.. they are 2 seperate business entity altogether.

They can lock your funds, but they will do that to verify your account.. Thats all... if you provide correct info, they will unlock it..

that had nothing to do with PayPal ;)

Hence...ebay..not paypal (yes...they are two SEPARATE companies...just one owns the other) was authorized to collect payment in a way you had ALREADY allowed them to do...

PayPal can't pull money from your bank account without your consent...and if they do, you could sue both PayPal and your Bank...(though i'd ask a lawyer about that one ;))

I did not read all the replies..

But for sure Paypal can take money from your bank account.
-- They only do if you pay some one.

-- (It is chaper for them to take money from your bank then to take from your CC) so, if you give both options they take the money from your bank account..

They do it all the time on my account.
-- Yes it is a major problem if some one get hold of your account..
-- They can drain your bank account in few hours (even if you have millions)

I just got my funds that they locked back, and in the process of transferring it out. I called paypal for 3 hours and the answer is "no" they can't take money out of your account but they have a really none user friendly site that will make you take money out of your own account.

I threaten to sue... And got everything done.

Hope it makes sense and help?

That's good to know. I thought it was in their user agreement that they could. Glad it's not
