xp all the way. vista still has too many bugs, and xp is a gamers friend. imo other than there looks there the same operating system.. however vista is like an insecure child that needs the approval of his parent to do anything. requirements arent all that bad i guess... runs smooth on my grandfathers laptop (C2D w/ 1gb ddr2 ram). but i dont know how it would run under gaming circumstances where resources are shared. I may put it on my laptop eventually but it will never be put on my gaming rig (custom built desktop...plenty fast but i wont put vista on it unless xp doesnt support DX-10..which i think they made it so it does now)
In my opinion - if you want a flashy looking interface which compromises speed to looks - try Vista and if you want something down to earth that won't eat a load of memory to function - try XP - as simple as that - off course the technical issues with Vista are somethings that you got to risk - eating a piece of iced cake will definately give you some cholestrol and sugar - untill its researched and improved upon with zero cholestrol and non - sugar sweeteners - For now Vista is like a rich man's food . As for the poll on top of this page - the question is too short and could mean many things - Do you mean to ask if we would opt for Vista or XP or do you mean to ask if we own Vista or XP ?
Linux all the way, Vista is a hog just wastes all my systems. Their is oonly 5 good things about Vista no where near 100 I think your thinking of reasons why not to get vista! Its either XP or Linux or mac
I could do that in XP. It's called the taskbar. I don't have a remote control, most people don't. True, but it's still insecure. I was before. How does the resource-hungry translucent menu bars or animated window maximising help me work more efficiently? Repetition of point 1. I could do all that on XP. Wow, google picasa has done that for ages. Not exactly new. Actually, it's a huge step backwards. My Intel Wireless manager on Xp works so much better. I don't use IE and, even if I did, it is still available on XP anyway. They're not exactly obvious a and most likely not exactly a complete solution. I could do that on XP. Every TV in my house is also able to do that. As I said, I don't use IE. FireFox has this as well and both are available on XP. In other words: You need to buy another Microsoft product for about the price of Vista in order to use a feature in vista. Could be done in XP. There's a wonderful feature in XP that does just this, it's called copy and paste! Google desktop does that. You could do that on XP. Repetition of point 2. Repetition of point 2 and several others. Wow, a revolutionary new feature, you can now play games on Windows! It's only been there since Windows 3.1 and before. Repetition of point. 1 Repetition of half a dozen of your other points. Repetition of point 3. Wow, an operating system that actually works with other software and hardware. Again, more are compatible with XP. Again, I don't use IE and it works on XP anyway. You've said that before. Repetition. Can be done in XP. Could easily be done in XP. No, I need more original, real reasons. you've reworded each reason about 3 times each to make up those 30 reasons and none of them are actually anything more than eye-candy.
Listen to the The General he has done his research. If I wanted something shine and that looked good I would not buy an OS. Give me more Microsoft
Here are another reasons Because your PC lets you know if something's wrong—and helps you fix it Windows Vista alerts you when potentially dangerous software is trying to run on your computer and helps keep your PC running smoothly by warning you when critical resources are low. Because you have a need for speed Need to speed up your computer? Simply plug a USB memory stick into your desktop or notebook computer and let Windows ReadyBoost do the rest.
The General, perfect reply. 30 reasons to not upgrade to Vista because you can still do the same in XP. even on OS-X or even on Linux...
Yeah..Yeah, no more technical support required What a joke.... The question is Do not worry about file size anymore and the answer is use the wizard to reduce the file size, compress to email a picture. Still you can do that in XP
I have a better idea then that: How about not acquiring the potentially dangerous software in the first place and using anti-virus. Great, so I can now waste resources upgrading and then be warned that i'm running low on resources! How about not upgrading in the first place and having no need to be warned about it? How nice of them to tell me how much resources It's not as if you can do much about the resource usage either. I can't suddenly magic 500gb more RAM into a machine. Could all be done with XP. Strange, i've been doing that on my laptop (running XP) for I-don't-know-how-many years If, of course, you pay top-whack price for Vista ultimate. You can do that on XP for far cheaper (possibly free) You know, most people nowadays use photoshop. XP could do that. Plus, wizards get damn annoying after a while. A wonderful new feature this one: A guaranteed way to kill the life of your USB key. Hasn't it occurred to anyone at Redmond that, the most probable reason people will need more RAM is because vista is so bloated.
wow rocket science this is too difficult in XP Still rocket science Drive Encryption for Windows is not new and can be done in XP with 3rd party software, even for free. Linux also have drive encryption out of the box. Still can do that in XP and Free, use Google Picasa App for example. If "The need for Speed" is a must, better keep XP.
Meh. There are to many fan boys out there. If you have a fast computer, get it, if not stick with XP. I have had no problems (other then the annoying security which CAN be turned off) with vista. Everything has been smooth, I have been able to play all of my old games. Vista is by far the most stablist release for an operating system that has been released by Microsoft, hands down. I love how everyone bashes Microsoft on there operating systems, when just as many problems and issues can be found in the other operating systems (including Linux systems as well).
I have an iMac with Mac OS X. I love it, don't want to get back to Windows. And there seems to be a lot probleem with Vista aswell...
Well... So does Zone Alarm, and its simpler. Some software can do this for XP. Actually networks are a lot more problematic when it comes to vista. You can limit what users can go to what files in XP too. google... Also google... To bad harddrive memory does not actually speed up your computer, you will need RAM for that. Anything else?
