SEO: subdomain vs subdir

IF I want to add a Game page to my site

games.mysite.com

mysite.com/games

which one is better for SEO?

A subpage would be better for a game PAGE, IMO. If you want the SEs to treat it as a different site, it's best to use a subdomain.

 

both of them are equally good, but i would go for games.mysite.com, cause there are different ways you can leverage it

 

Subdomains can have a great effect for existing projects if the subdomain also contains the new keyword.. i would also go for games.mysite.com because it makes the sub-section more brandable

folder is better because subdomains are completely new domains for search engines. subdomains will need more time to rank better

 

Remember Google treats subdomains as NEW site.

 

if its just one game, then go for the dir .. but if you plan on adding more games and "games" don't quit tie in with the theme of your site, then go sub-domain.

First of all, you'll be saving yourself some money for the new domain name if you stick with the subdomain.

The Alexa rank will be different too. Subdomain.yourdomain.tld will have the Alexa rank of yourdomain.tld. And obviously, a new domain will have a different Alexa rank.

 

I don't think there is any difference, as far as I have learned from experince
a subdomain is a new site.

 

if you make a forum,blog or a discussion board related with your base site,I advise you to use domains.If you just want to add another category to your site,use directories.The main reason for subdomains used for forums and etc is that people leave links(good and bad),spammers and for the beggining it may affect your overall SEO of the base site if used as directory.

do you want to say "Subdomain.yourdomain.tld will have the Alexa rank of SUBDOMAIN.yourdomain.tld.

 

The second option is the one to choose from SEO point of view, i.e:mysite.com/games.

 

Hi the very good point is that subdomain can save me some money to register a domain name.............

BUT is there really no bad effect on using subdomains???????? If that is true, why should people still spend money on registering domain name if they want to run a "network of sites".............. for example, if one want to run a celebrity network of site......... then it would be saving lots of money if I do following:

I register a domain.......... mycelebritynetworksites.com, then I use subdomain to do

celebrityaaa.mycelebritynetworksites.com
celebrityaab.mycelebritynetworksites.com
celebrityaac.mycelebritynetworksites.com
.......

every one has it's own advantages

subdomain is better for search eninge and traffic but(it has pr 0)

floder do not use alot of bandwidth and have pagrank like your site

 

you ask "which one is better for SEO?", so the answer would be subfolder because the main website already have ranking.

 

I prefer sub domains it always work as having differnet site

 

Do whatever makes sense for your users.

 

This is good point actually. Your forum should be a subdomain. Becuase people might be posting bad neighbourhood sites on your forum. And you don't want to hurt the GoogleTrust of your Top level domain.
