The whole thing is very Malthusian, but as most people don't read history they are unfamiliar with Thomas Malthus and are therefore susceptible to fall for the same easy (and wrong) arguments again and again.

It's just like playing fetch with a dog! They never seem to catch on that you have palmed the ball. :D

I think this definitely adds to the legitimacy of Global Warming. While we cannot know for sure what exactly is the entire cause of warming climates, we do know that the earth is warming.

Without fully like a retard, If the planet is getting warmer globally, is there a way that we can reverse the damage?
Has anyone investigated a way to turn down the heat and possibly make the sun less brighter thus encasing our planet in a colder shadow?

Perhaps we will have this technology by the time the next 1,500 year cycle rolls around. :)

Right now, not so much. Humans just don't have the capability of making a major impact on the global climate. Our top option would probably be to use explosives to set off a volcano. The ozone and greenhouse effects would raise global temperature slightly, but the haze effect would lower temperatures even more. But who is going to volunteer their local volcano for the experiment? :D

Worse, we would have to blow a major volcano every year or two. That would require a lot of volunteers.

I just lost all (which was not much to begin with) my respect for the Nobel commission.

Curious about this, Will. If I understand where you are heading, the Malthusian threshold isn't a hell I'd want to wish on anyone. Is this what you are talking about, the Malthusian limit, environmentally?

When I was in Third Grade, our textbooks had pictures of Wolly Mammoths in them and we were taught that man-made pollution would cover the planet in haze and cause Global Cooling.

Man, I wish I still had that textbook!

    Really?

    1) Where'd you go to school?
    2) How old are you to still be able to remember third grade?

I'm 24, and can barely remember high school... If you're over 20, you need to get out more and work on making new memories :)

Gore just needs to take his tinkertoy set and his beard and run off into the sunset with Tipper. Can't you all imagine he and Tipper on the yacht in the Gulf of Mexico just having a weird creepy Dr. No laugh together while the sunset washes across their sun drenched beautifully tanned bodies....

That was a public elementary school in Wichita Kansas.

    38, I think.

    It's funny, but I really can't remember 24.

But I still remember campaigning for Jimmy Carter in the 1976 election.

Of course, I was mainly campaigning to other 7yr olds who couldn't vote either! Thankfully, that limited the damage that I was able to do.

By 1980, I was deeply regretting my childish foolishness and I did not support Carter for re-election after he trashed the country for four years.

My God, I hope Hillary isn't as bad as Jimmy.

Of course, in 1976 the Democrats could have run Stalin himself for President and he would have beat Jerry Ford. Poor Jerry was inseparable from the Nixon legacy and he had to go - at any price.

In 1976, we just weren't able to imagine how high that price would be. By 1980, we knew all too well the hell that we had put ourselves through to avoid selecting Nixon's VP as President. Most of us deeply regretted our earlier decision.
