I would suggest slightly better contrast. My eyes were wondering all over the place looking for something to catch onto.
I like colour combinations number two, with the green. But you should just abandon this project and start again with a new domain. iEntry, owners of Jayde and Webproworld, also own amazing-directory.com. I have a suspicion they aren't the only ones who use the word "amazing" with a directory. If you build this, you could end up losing a big chunk of your traffic to them and maybe getting involved in a dispute.
dispute? why is that? i only own 2 domains, this and webdirectory.co.il (which is for local israili directory industry - which is not profitable) and btw, what about amazingdirectory.com, also, "amazing" doesn't give much traffic on google when it is related to directories (i did my home work) so i guess unless i find another good domain i will stick with this one... any other supporters? new style:
Why is it so many people come here asking for advice and then say nah, gonna do what I want? With over 900 posts you can't be new to the webmastering field which all the more makes your reply to Obelia a bit uhm, amazing. Is it just me or does this logo look quite similar to Alive's?
To answer your question - my first choice would be #3 and second #1... Just my opinion, but the template in general does not make me say wow!
The dark green is too blah for me. You need to use something a little more blue IMO or lighter color. The design is overall OK, but like swedal said it is not worth getting excited about. On a further note, directories today have to be way more than just a directory. If you would have started 2 years ago it would be different. Now a days you gotta bring more than just a link. Do your research on popular mods and directory tips to achieve such. On to marketing, although your site is new. You need to pay close eye to what works and what doesn't. Even if you had the best template in the world without proper marketing it is useless. So, study what works for others and develop your own methods to reach out to people. Sorry, I know it is more than you asked for.
thanks everyone for your thoughts. although not i created the logo but a good designer here at DP. this logo is, a running man.. to the top while alives logo seems nothing much, although i have it's big dot
It's always a good idea to avoid using the same name that a competitor is trading with, even when they don't have a registered trademark. This is because trademark rights can sometimes be conferred automatically as the result of prior use. I'm not a lawyer, so I don't know whether this applies where you live, or the ins and outs of this legislation. Anyway, they could apply for a trademark tomorrow. It's just common sense not to use someone else's brand.
What makes this any different then the thousands of other sites just like this? You need to find a differentiator!
