I agree with those who say close it down, or split it off to somewhere else (redirect to a different domain name, different server *hint*).

When you (Shawn) first set up Politics and Religion to get the crap out of General chat it worked really well at cleaning up the rubbish. Even the heated political debates had, for the most part, a modicum of respect. Sadly, and not unexpectedly, the cesspool began to fester and because it was mostly unmoderated, it turned into a free-for-all of vileness. It's an infection of DigitalPoint that needs excised.

Actually, here's a thought that can be implemented immediately - send the Politics forum underground - as in, block the SE spiders from accessing it. That at least, would go some way to avoid drawing the nutjobs to DP.

WTH? You're complaining that it gets too argumentative in that board...what do you expect? Everyone to believe that one person is right? Hell no...we all have our own opinions and some choose to defend themselves. Shutting down a perfect board here, because the staff can't handle a simple debate discussion here is pathetic...

It isn't that people get argumentative. It's that some people feel it's okay to be vile.

The 'staff' are a bunch of hard-working volunteers who sit for hours fixing problems and deleting the crap so the rest of us can enjoy a smooth-running forum. If you feel you can personally moderate 15,000 posts/threads per day then feel free to offer up your resume.

P&R is one of the most entertaining forums... Although I dont post much there, I've been a long time lurker :p
It'd be a pity if it was shut down..

Like Will Spencer said, banning religious posts is like giving in to the Turks' commands, but then Shawn had to make a sensible decision considering the DDOS-ers are nutcases with little to do and lots of time...

Finally Shawn did the right thing. I haven't seen so much hatred against Muslims on any other platform ever. Everyone is talking about freedom of speech but people's freedom ends where the others' freedom starts. Thanks for your foresight Shawn.

The rules do not just apply toward hatred of Muslims. There was a fair amount of anti-Jewish, anti-Christian, and other crap too. The rules apply to everyone. I'm not everyone's babysitter. Your mommy's are for that.

I just gave Muslims as an example as the most hatred was towards them in the P&R section. Of course it's good for everyone.

He's not complaining about it getting too argumentative, he's saying that the posts are getting out of hand and are very offensive toward a lot of people/religions.

Defending yourself is one thing. Bad mouthing a person/religion is another.

Simply give your mature response and move on, don't call all Muslims idiots or say 6 million Jews dying in the Holocaust wasn't enough. Those are the types of posts that we're saying are unacceptable.

Thinking the P&R section is perfect, that's pathetic.

P&R might be surely closed , that's just place for members to insult each other , receive infractions and spoil forum.

Once I've done a mistake posting a thread there and after it I realized that it not worth even to visit that part of the forum . We are webmasters guys and it's not up to us to discuss Politics in here . There are many forums in internet about that why it needed to be discussed here ?

Well I'm going to miss the fights, but if this keeps DP online 24/7, then be it.
Feels sad that we are giving these hackers what they want.

I hang out in P&R a lot, and for the most part, we are a bunch of fairly civil people who disagree on a lot of things. I think it's a good place to have, but yea, the anti-Jewish, anti-Muslim, anti-Christian crap needs to stop. You want to argue about the actions of some people that's fine, but to apply that label to the entire demographic is the very definition of intolerance and bigotry.

Good suggestion. Subforum moved underground, and spiders blocked, no indexing.

My own suggestion is less tolerance for abusive language. It's a blatant violation of the forum rules, and it's not enforced.

I'm also very surprised to see that 'leet' has been unbanned, he and his friends organized the biggest attack against DP/Shawn, and it had nothing to do with religion. I don't care that they are not even 18 year old, it's not an excuse for ultra-violence. He threatened, used abusive language, organized a ddos attack and he is allowed in here again, it's outrageous.
