I wrote an article today about how there are ways to get around Google's attack against link sales. I was trying to figure out how I could make money from it and still get the traffic I wanted and I came up with these ideas. If you have any others, please feel free to post them. I'll add them to the post and give you a link back. Here is the article: here. If you like the article, feel free to stumble. Thanks!
It's funny when people think they're smart by posting these types of articles and on the SAME PAGE they're doing exactly what they think they're smart by telling you not to do. and just to the right of that? real genius at work here.
Right. Google has nothing against selling nofollow links. Link buying for traffic is still acceptable with Google - just that these have to be nofollow links.
Yes it's always a smart thing to do to recommend not doing something you're doing to violate the ToS of not only the serp results but adsense too which he's using on the site. But you're right. it's smart He's not dumb at all for sticking out like a sore thumb. check the domain in a week when it's de-listed.
Because I go against the TOS of adsense how? Where does it say in the adsense TOS, "No, you can't sell links?" I'm not even listed all that well in the first place because I don't like to rely on them. I grow my sites other ways because for me, SEO will grow naturally. And since, unfortunately, my sites have no links sold on them, I still don't see a problem.
not flaming anyone here but why don't you guys just build up quality content, and that'll get you linked to other sites for free and whatever? like.. it's so silly buying links you're ruining the search results
Selling links will happen as long as back links help your SERPs position. By Google making it illegal, they just made sure that the black hats are the only ones that use it now. You could easily compare this to the war on drugs. Drugs are illegal, but they aren't leaving the country anytime soon. Legalizing them would just take the benefit away from the criminals and give it to corporations.
You could say that this is just Google doing it because it affects their search engines, but let's think about something. Before I mention it, read this article. Wouldn't it make more sense to just remove our ability to pass on PageRank juice? Instead, they want to screw us over in the SERPs? I think, like that article says, that Google isn't so much doing this for the 'sake of the search engine' as much as a 'you defy us, we'll screw you up.' So, I really do wonder what else they do that is actually for the better of the service and not just for the better of GOOGLE.
If you're doing nothing wrong then surely you won't mind being reported here right? http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/how-to-report-paid-links/ Which also specifically points out why you are not suppose to sell links like you are doing. Not to mention it's the first paragraph in your article. lol
I won't get banned from Adsense for that, story97. That's the point. Now, you're welcome to report me if you'd like, but I think all Google is doing by having that feature is turning webmasters against webmasters. Can Google really police the web? No. But, if they have greedy webmasters out there trying to screw each other, then yes, Google can police the web. Consider carefully the desire to screw another webmaster over. It's all karma in the end.
No it's pretty clear what google is doing. no matter how much dancing anyone does, it's penalizing the people that aren't bright enough to raise their PR the way it's intended, and it's penalizing all of us because people have to try (and usually fail) to abuse a system. So while you think you won't have a proble being reported when there's a page FROM Matt that specifically states he wants sites reported that are doing precisely what you're doing, hey man, it's your world you're living in. I don't need to report you. Your little site has no impact on me at all. I'm just letting you know that while you toot your horn, you're looking foolish.
I agree that it is WRONG to buy links for the simple fact of raising PR. But, that's why I don't participate in buying links for PR. I'd rather buy a link for one hundred unique visitors than an increase in PR. I think PR has done more damage than good and in a sense, Google created this problem themselves. However, that isn't going to stop me from selling my own links. I think that what Google SHOULD do is say, "well, you want to sell links, fine, then you lose the 'trust' of a linker and that means that your link juice is useless.' Well, that's fine. But, I don't think they should ruin our SERPs. If we earned where we are, it means we are a good site. And if they are trying to make the 'best search engine,' aren't they just being hypocritical and power hungry? I have no problem with them saying, "yes, this screws up our alogorithm." But, they are then saying, "screw you, you defy us, we screw you." It's become personal to Google.
I dont know. I guess I can see your point. I just disagree. I'm not sure how you can claim you're against doing it since you're selling links on your site which is no different than buying them.
Do you see anywhere that I am saying "this is a PR whatever site" and all of that? No. All I say is, "there is a link for sale, buy it if you want." I sell my links because it is a means for me to afford different things. Think of it like this... A gun seller may be against murder, but if the gun he sells to someone is used in a murder, is the gun seller a murderer?
