hi, i have developed my sitemap.but google webmaster says the 'sitemap is not correctly formatted' how i can create site map thanks in advance
sitemapspal also seems like a good one to use- By the way- My name is Mike and I am new to this forum... It seems like a great place for a SEO wannabe like me. If anyone has any idea about some specific posts within this forum that would be a good starting point please feel free to help me out.
Does the sitemap you try to submit use XML sitemaps protocol? Can we see an example? If unsure you might want to check this article about sitemaps: http://www.micro-sys.dk/developer/articles/website-sitemap-kinds-comparison.php It explains and have code examples of all popular sitemap formats.
Did you read the article? 1) You can create HTML sitemaps which are crawlable like every other HTML page. Business as usual. 2) In addition (fairly recent) came XML sitemaps protocol (which started out being called Google XML sitemaps). They are required to be in XML and have to follow the sitemaps protocol.
hi i have downloaded xml sitemap from xml-sitemaps.com and uploaded in my public-html. till google says sitemap is not formatted. my query is from where i should give link to sitmap.xml since the sitemap link at my site refferred to my own sitemap page i.e sitemap.php
Did you (hopefully) download from xml-sitemaps.com the uncompressed version of the sitemap they created for you? If you downloaded the compressed version and uploaded that to your site, that might be a reason why Google Webmaster Tools says the format is wrong. Just a hunch for you to take a look at.
Do you use a LAMP host? (Linux, Apache ..forget what the M stands for.. & PHP) I've been using the PHP Sitemap generator: http://enarion.net/google/phpsitemapng/ It's pretty good but I've found that Google is only picking up a subset of my total pages - not sure whether it's down to the script or Google tho. Good luck, Let me know if there's anything that I can help you with. Cheers, p.
hi, does the sitemap have to be only in the root of your website? can we have many sitemap coz if your website getting bigger you really have a big sitemap file and does it o.k with google bots? check out my website, still new and need comments from you all xt3ch.com
Yes, as the article I mentioned earlier says, you can have up to 1000 XML sitemaps within a given website, each with up to 50.000 urls.
http://www.sitemapbuilder.net/download.aspx this is free, doesn't use your server space, bandwith. all you need to make sure is that this software crease error URL/page that you don't even have in your site, just delete them before you upload in your site at example: http://www.a1bidlinks.com/sitemap.xml or http://www.a1bidlinks.com/sitemap.txt
I also use xml-sitemaps.com but it limits 500 pages so does anyone know other better websites to generate sitemap for Google? Thanks!
Hi my friend, Here is the answer "What is a Sitemap file and why should I have one? You can use a sitemap file to tell us about all the pages on your site, and optionally, to provide information about those pages, such as which are most important and how often they change. Sitemaps are particularly helpful if your site has dynamic content, pages that aren't easily discovered by following links, or if your site is new and has few links to it. Sitemaps helps speed up the discovery of your pages, which is an important first step in crawling and indexing your pages, but there are many other factors that influence the crawling/indexing processes. Sitemaps lets you tell us information about your pages (which ones you think are most important, how often the pages change), so you can have a voice in these subsequent steps. Other factors include: How many sites link to you Whether your content is unique and relevant Our ability to crawl the pages successfully Everything outlined in our webmaster guidelines. A sitemap provides an additional view into your site (just as your home page and HTML site map do), but sitemaps do not replace our normal methods of crawling the web. Google still searches and indexes your sites in the normal way, whether or not you use this program, and sites are never penalized for using this service. We can't make any predictions or guarantees about when or if your URLs will be crawled or added to our index but over time, as we refine our processes and better understand webmasters' needs, we expect both coverage and time-to-index to improve."
