When I run the site:www.site.com query in google the number of indexed pages has dropped by 40% in the last week. What would cause that? Thanks.

Do you have google analytics account. If not create analytics account create a sitemap and submit to analytics. Then your pages will not dropped by googles index

I think it's not a 100% guaranteed that your page will not drop if you use google analytics.

enquiries0009: What a bullshit. Sitemaps have nothing to do with the number of pages indexed.
Additionally check your supplemental pages. www.domain.* and see if they decreased or increased.

What is the supplement index? If pages are in the supplement index, what does it mean? Thanks for all the help.

I have always heard that you need to do a search like this to see your supplemental index results.

    site:www.yourdomain.com *** -slkdfjkslk
    Code (markup):
Where slkdfjkslk is a random string that will show no primary index results. I get completely different numbers with these two methods. Can anyone clarify this?

site:yourdomain.com *** -sljktf is the actual command line.

But it won't show up good results since the Supp. index has been discontinued. Meaning: You won't get to see the Supp. results even if they ARE the supp. results.

And as far as transburgh's query goes:- Hang in there buddy! It's just the big G updating !
