Why only .com ext shows up in top search result.

OK, I may be wrong, but today while searching at random for ANYTHING... top 100 pages were only .com extensions!!!!
As internet has caught up, I know everyone says that it make NO Difference if you have .com or .co.uk ... but to be honest, search anything and you would be disappointed not to find a single ext other then .com in your search results (with some exceptions when total no. of results are only say less then 20) ...

So question is - is .com still much better then any other TLD for google indexing ?

    Curiously,
    GS

Because "most" webmasters are not very serious with other extensions.

.com is not different compared to others tld in seo terms but most of sites with .com has some advantage.
    1. Most of them has been registered before others tld so they have longer in domain age terms, which is the big factor in SEO.
    2. Most of webmasters who owned .com domains are serious about building his brand. They pay much attention on building great contents, great natural backlinks and that's why most of .com is stand above others tld in the same search term.

I agree @ Sxperm.. .thus wondering is it really worth to invest in other TLD's when chances of .com remain to be always ahead !!! I have noticed folks would always add .com when they are not sure of ext, while it becomes difficult to try other combinations (which is ever growing!! :S )

In my experiance the .com sites use SEO techniques better and more, but I think it depents on the language aswell.

If I search in Dutch I get .nl only. ;)

I never bothered about the extentions but now I read this thread I searched for "CMS": Just for you :p

    wanna know what I found?
    out of 10 ONLY 3 were .com s  4 were .org ; 1 .gov ; 1 .co.in & 1 .int (I dont even know this TLD :wow: )

Most people will say it doesn't matter, but I believe it does. I think any other extension has a chance at surpassing a .com in Google, of course, but (I believe) more favor is put on the .com's.

Domain's extension do not have any effect on SEO. My .biz beats out the .com .net for the same keyword. :p

The main reason is that webmasters prefer .com domains for their projects. However they don’t have any advantages compared to other domain zones. If you wish to you could look up “pharmacy” requests and you might as well be amazed by the number of doorways in CN zone, for example. Therefore, the content determines page ranking not a domain.

No you are wrong. Extensions doesn't matter. I think what you searched keyword there is no other extensions doesn't have good quality backlinks for that reason it doesn't appear in top 10 or 100. Rankings purely depend on backlinks only.

    The perpetuation of a myth.

There really is no different between any of them as far as the bots are concerned, as it all falls back to content.

HOWEVER, most people/webmasters do go with the .com, and when they buy the other extensions they will often park the pages and promote only the .com version. In the cases where they can only afford one, it's generally the .com that is gotten (with the exception of the .info, but most of those are spammy, and not promoted properly with exactly the opposite reasonings as the .coms are popular).

So with the better majority of the sites out there primarily being of the .com variety it's easy to confuse such search statistics with SE's taking them as a higher priority.

Buy all the extensions and then take the .net, .org. or even a .info and promote it like you would a .com and you will likely see that it's that extension that'll make it to the top.

I think it's just because most of the older more established sites are .com, but there are certainly cases of sites being very successful with other extensions. I have a site that's having a lot of success with a .US extension.

    Why? How?

Surely if it's true you have something to back it up, or at least an opinion on the matter.

    The above sums it all.

I have a lot of OTHER ext. domains that are ranking for years now.
