Fact: Last year The Bears (now benched) QB Rex Grossman had a QB rating over 100 after 4 games and was NFL offensive player of the month in Sept. He had a horrible game in Arizona, and has never been the same since ~~~~~~~ Fact: This year The Cowboys QB Tony Romo had a QB rating over 100 after 4 games and was being called "the next Bret Favre". He just threw his 5th interception of the night I know Romo is more mobile and talented than Grossman, so... I'm not asking if you "think Romo is better" than 'Bad Rex' ~~~~~~~~ He is having such a horrible game: Will he recover, and have a great, long career? or Is this the moment where he will "never been the same again?"
All players get benched, even the greats. When people talk about the great Steelers teams of the 70s who on offense are the first two players mentioned? Terry Bradshaw and Franco Harris. But at the start of the 1974 season Bradshaw wasn't even the starting quarterback! (It was a guy called Gilliam). I'm sure Romo will come back - but he'll have to learn that it's always two steps forward and one step back.
everybody has bad games, and he is still fairly unexperienced. should be able to see how good he really is by the end of season
I don't think it's fair to make any assumption based on 15 games at the end of the day day you know the biggest difference between Favre and Grossman? Brett has 1 more ring than Rex Even if Romo throws 5 against NE who cares! It's NE! Doesn't mean he's going to tank like Rex or shine like Brett
Sports isn't always 'fair'. Many QB's never get a chance to fully develop. Rex was "totally kicking ass", then one really bad game seemed to mess him up. Romo has more raw talent, so he'll probably bounce back, but... Mental habits and confidence mean a lot.
True, raw talent isn't enough. To be honest though I don't think he'll be the next Brett Favre - more likely he'll be the next Vinny Testaverde. Raw talent (Testaverde won the Heisman in 1986) and a long career, but that's where the comparisons will end IMO. I wait for future events to prove me wrong and when Romo beats Favre's touchdown passes record I'll ressurect this thread and apologise!
Yeah but Rex was Jekyll and Hyde...he was either 100+ for QB rating or < 40!!! Even had a zero rating for one game!! The only reason he's won 5 of the 10 games or whatever is b/c of special teams and D. Tony has all the confidence in the world IMO. Everyone kept harping on the Seattle playoff game...with the start to this year I think he put those concerns to bed. Hey, if you take away the game against Buf (Which he still won!) and the games last year where he was playing with an atrocious porous defense he'd have another 5 wins under his belt!! Vinny never was able to improvise and keep plays alive did he? Tony can make things happen when the pocket breaks down, I'm almost certain Vinny did not possess that quality. Look, the only reason Tony is compared to Favre is b/c he was his idol growing up, he's from WI, and he's got a gun slinger mentality. Brett is overrated in many peoples minds. For all the spectacular plays he makes he makes some really poor decisions too...poor decisions he should know not to make by now. We saw some of that "junk" in the game thy lost last week against the Bears...he made some really goober throws and was lucky he wasn't picked 1 or 3 more times after that! Though in fairness that might be more of a product of having no running game...he trying to do too much.
Yeah, fair comment. I think it was Testaverde's lack of improvisational ability that counted against him in the end. I was only making the point about talent not being enough. Probably picked the wrong QB to draw a comparison with! However I don't think Favre is overrated. He didn't beat Marino's record just by being 'lucky'. He IS getting on a bit now though!
Not to take away (or minimize) from Brett but when you play as long as he has the records will come...still it's amazing he has performed at such a high level for so many years. Just think if he would have had top shelf receivers for more years than he has had...might have broken the record 5+ years ago!! The Vinny's and the Drew Bledsoe's of the world are stellar but only if they have enough time to bend down and retie their shoes while still in the pocket... I just think let's see how this season plays out before we brand Tony as being like X or Y. But hey, even Brett said (while watching game tape of the Giants game) that Brett thought he was watching himself at times when seeing what Tony was doing back there. That's impressive in and of itself!
Grossman should be playing highschool football right about now. Im glad the bears benched him. for Romo to throw 5 int's and still win it is amazing. This alone shows that he has something special going for him
Think of it this way.. Of all the records Farve has broken, he has also broken the interception record.. If Romo keeps doing everything Farve has, including throwing interceptions, he'll rank up there with the likes of Farve for sure...
afterwards his reaction was classic Romo..."only 5? it felt more like 7"...I think most other QB's would have gone off the deep end after the 3rd or 4th but he kept firing! I was looking for stats but could not find any...I bet Brett has several 3 INT games and I bet even some 4's mixed in... so
Tony Romo is a piece of crap- IMO. I'd really love to see him fail miserably (as Grossman already has).
It's that Dallas uniform that is doing it.. Chi-town passed on Romo... Just think if they had him. 1. Bears would be in first. 2. Romo would only be about 1.5 hours drive from home.
