    Respected DP Members,
Recently i saw in a website regarding google page ranking issue.
Google changed page ranking system. Previously google taken all external links into consideration for page rank caluculation. But now it is not taking directory links, links from sites which are using link exchange and link trading.Anybody has any more information in this regard please post here.

Post the link to that article? Also most of what you read about Pagerank etc. on the net is pure speculation.

    Hey there,

All I have seen so far is speculations.

The only thing I have officially heard from google is that they are cracking down on paid links.

I guess that is where the speculations come from.

Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see what happens in the next two weeks.

    Sincerely,
    Travis Walters

Unless Matt Cutts said it was so, then it is probably just a rumor.

I have heard about paid links and reciprocal links will have effect on website ranking and i think this is true because you can get links easily and it's an artificial links.

It is common knowledge in the SEO world that G has been discounting the value of some inbound links for at least a couple of years. Also, Matt Cutts has pointed out in at least one of his blogs that G does penalize sites for having unrelated outbound links. Look in the Reading Currrent Feedback section.

    http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/indexing-timeline/

I've seen sites that were banned due to excessive sitewide links pointing to the site (over 50,000) and in one situation, Google did respond and verified that the penalty was due to excessive links from "link farms and web rings". I found the 1990s terminology in their response to be interesting. The site recovered several months after all of the purchased sitewide links were removed.

We all need to obtain links to our sites. The best links are single links inbound from industry-related sites. If is best if the linking pages already rank well in G.

There's a section in the webmaster tools where you can submit a form telling them about sites that are buying links or selling them. I've never used it - but i doubt that submitting that form alone would get you banned from google. Once you are logged into webmaster tools you can go here:

I would have to say that no one really knows whats going on, but I would say they are going to drop the PR bar and all that and replace it with some other ranking system.

The PR bar was good when it started and Google would be fools to get rid of it without an awesome replacement. I believe it will be more like a Gage in which it takes links, content, and all that jazz into one # in hopes to eliminate paid links and such.

PageRank isn't going anywhere. It's like the backbone of Google's indexing philosophy - it has been in use since google's inception.
