My pages without keywords pay better

I know this makes little sense from everything I have read here but here goes. My site is about dating. My home page with all the meta tags and keywords which match the site brings in a horrible 6 cents a click on average. The CTR is pretty good. Another main page with all the keywords approriate for the page same horrible 6 cents with a good CTR.

I then have all these photo gallery pages I have never bothered to put keywords in and they consistenly bring in almost double the amount per click. The CTR is a lot lower. I should mention that these pages also have a lot less content. Since the pages seem to show the same ads why would these pages pay more per click?

Its all depends upon your keywords only. For dating keyword google will pay less ctr. For other keywords they will pay more. If you want highest paying keywords means search for this forum for sep high paying keywords.

Maybe i didn't explain it well. The ads are all dating ads shown by google because I run a dating site. On the pages where I have keywords the ads only pay about 6 cents. On other pages (also dating related of course) with less content and no keywords i average 12 cents per click. Basically the same ads paying more on less visited pages with little content and no keywords. I am trying to understand why this is.

The answer is simple. Its a dating site and only get clicks for dating related Ads.

People often concentrate on high paying keywords for the sake of making more money but they do not understand that a person looking for specific information wont bother to click on your high paying ad.

I have seen people using keywords related to mesothelioma on their make money online blog. Now who will click on that stupid meso ad when people want to make money.

We need to think logically. Rather than running behind something, its important to use and target keywords which are directly related to your website. Thats the only way for success. High paying keywords is pure BS.

"less visited" is the key... it's the same phenomenon with brand new pages or even brand new sites that you just put up.

My keywords are related to dating, as it would be useless to have inappropriate keywords which bring up off topic ads. The same ads show on the high traffic pages as the low traffic pages, I just get twice as much for clicks on the low traffic pages.

thanks for the information but I am not sure I understand the concept. Low page views and a low CTR result in double the amount per click than higher traffic pages with much higher CTR. Ads on the pages are basically the same and all have been around for a long time.

p.s this weekend it is 3 times as much. I think my brain is melting :D

see, you've hit the nail on the head twice now :D you already know more than everybody else in this thread, they haven't picked up on it at all.

remember that scammer thread about removing the pub i.d. for a few days? what did it have in common with what you are seeing here?

You people dont get what is happening.

    There are 2 pages.

    page A and page B.

Page A has meta keywords, page b doesnt.

Page A is making less money than page b.

And you would think, with meta keywords, there would be a better payout.

the low-traffic pages aren't giving google enough useage data to base the ad pricing on.

i think that the reason that it usually resets the pricing in just a couple of days is because it needs time to evaluate the quality of the traffic.

so the question is, how can you make that work for you?

thanks for the responses timallard and danimal. Actually the main pages with the keywords end up making more just because of the amount of traffic, but it is ashame i am getting like 4 or 5 cents a click for all those clicks.

The other pages without the keywords and less traffic are all over the place... 1 cent to 60 cents per click but when the dust settles they average a lot more per click.

Yes, how do i get more per click out of my main pages with the higher CTR, more content, and appropriate keywords for my dating site. I wonder if removing the keywords might in some crazy way get me more per click. But i don't want to lose my high google rank by pulling the keywords, which would not make any sense.

On a side note I did pull off two ad units so only one is left on my main page. Result - Same 4 cents a click. Is this a targeting issue? Can a site be targeting my main pages and offering crap bids on those pages?

This is really confusing but I am losing about 6 dollars a day thanks to these 4cent clicks.

EDIT CHECKED YESTERDAY'S Stats: 13 cents per click for the pages without keywords or much content, 5 cents per click for the main page of my site.

your stats will tell you how much of your earnings came from site-targeted ads.

or did you turn off the site-targeted cpm ads? you have to email adsense support to do it... get rid of that, and nobody can target your site.

ultimately, this isn't about keywords, it's about traffic patterns.

I have now, thanks for the tip. I will see if it makes any difference. I made $150 off affiliates in the last 2 days and maybe I just need to realize Adsense will become less important on my site. It will always be a part, but the decline in revenue over the past 6 months with an increase in traffic cannot be ignored. :D

those cpm banners could be a good thing to have for a forum, tho... unfortunately adsense does not give us the ability to choose where they go.

the good news is that since the affiliate angle is working, you are now in a position to leverage the weakness in the adsense traffic patterns.

what you do is replace all the adsense ads with the affiliate stuff for a short period of time, maybe 2-3 days?(remember the scammer thread on removing the pub i.d. for a few days?).

when you bring back adsense, monitor the epc to see when it starts dropping again... maybe another 2-3 days? the replace it with affiliates again.

since you have both content and forums, you'll need seperate channels on both to see what works best... let us know how it goes!

You will get nowhere with $0.06 to $0.12 clicks.

Try a different niche if you really want to make good revenue

What PPC would you be satisfied with? It takes a long time to have 6 cents add up to something.
